i wish i could stop..but i can't - January 14th 2011, 06:01 PM

i've been cutting for about a year noww. it all started when i was in an abusive relationship, but i broke up with the guy and i still haven't been able to stop the cutting. it doesn't matter whether i'm in a good mood or not, i just do it cause i can, or even when i'm bored.

I suggest you look at this. There is no need to cut nor is it okay or good for you. You do not deserve to be harmed by anyone, including yourself. There are much safer alternatives to hurting yourself. Don't let life pull you down. You are strong!

I'm sorry to say that after a while it becomes like an addiction or a bad habit. Have you tried any of the thing on this sticky -> http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/ ?
If you're still having problems with self harm, maybe you still have underlying issues from being in that relationship. Have you seen a councellor? It could help.
also, being active helps me not to self harm. I've traded self harm for caffeine and cigarettes these days and although it's not particularly healthy, it's helping somewhat. Maybe you could try trading it for a new, harmless "addiction", like chewing sugar-free gum or watching your favourite tv programme?
Good luck, and congrats on getting out of that relationship.

the only thing that really helps me with my cutting is drugs and alcohol..which isn't any better, i know. i've considered seeing a counselor, but i just can't get myself to make an appointment.

Ohhh i see. For a while i couldn't talk about my promblems face to face so my counslour just had me write it down even that was hard. It takes time but i think you should try it. Start writing poetry to express yourself then show it to the counselour and they'll get you comfortable and soon you'll be abale to talk about it then you'll feel so much more better <3 Hope things get better . PM me anytime !

Heyo, so I read that you cant get yourself to book an appointment with a counsellor. I used to be like that too, I cancelled/chickened out of three attempts at going to a counsellor. Today I finally did. I was scared out of my mind at first and I ended up crying for like 45 minutes and the whole thing was really hard and felt embarrassing and I hated talking about it. But in the end I know it was a good thing, the counsellor was really nice, and I'm glad I'm finally going to get some help with this and I plan to go again. Even if you tell yourself you will just go once it's worth a try and you might even end up going back. I hope you get the support you need. You are loved.

the reason making an appointment is so hard for me is because i have major trust issues. and i don't want to see my counselor at school and they only see me as the girl who cuts and what not. and i'm also worried they'll stereotype me, and treat me like a little kid.

Yourwelcomee (:
Andd noo that's not what counselours are suppose to do! Grrr , they're really stupid if they stereo type you ahh i hate it when teachers do that so that kinda makes sense haah, yeaaah . Well it is always hard opening up to people when you have trust issues but whats important for you is to find a counselour you like and you feel you can trust. Thats the main thing you might just want to focus on.
