Lost the will to stop - January 19th 2011, 11:47 PM

I haven't gone more than three days without cutting since November but I wanted to stop or at least part of me did. I've lost the will to quit though now

Nobody can make you stop. Nobody can help you stop if you don't want to stop. Really sincerly want to stop. you have to reach that point and you can't quit untill you do. This may sound stupid, but if you lost the desire to stop theres really no point in trying because you won't suceed. The best thing you can do is moniter what you do. How often and how severe. Try to go longer periods without doing it and try to make it less when you do. hope this helped some. If you need to talk feel free to pm or vm me.

Hey,

It's unfortunate to hear that you have lost the will to quit self-harming. However, that doesn't mean that you can't stop.
First, you should try and figure out what has caused you to lose the will to stop. Has something devastating recently happened in your life?

The next thing you need to do is find people that can support you through this quitting process. You need people to support you and talk with you when you get urges and have no will to quit. If you can't find anyone in real life that you would like to share this with, then you can always talk to me.

Take care of yourself,

Re: Lost the will to stop - January 20th 2011, 12:28 AM

There are many reasons to want to stop.
Physically there are the scars, the visible evidence that can raise some awkward questions and there is all the emotional pain etc that can come from this.
It's an addictive behaviour that can interfere with your day to day life, interrupting your normal patterns.
The damage physically does go beyond the scaring, the loss of blood (I assume) is an added stress to your system.
When I stopped I only needed the first reason, non of my friends or parents new about this side of my personality and I wanted it to stay that way. I admit I missed it and, as you know, it is hard.
You don't have to just go cold turkey though. Many people have momentary relapses.
You will always have our support though.

I dunno. All the scars are in places that aren't pretty anyhow so I'm not wrecking anything. Physical well being isn't something I really care much about. I'm good at lying and keeping secrets. I just don't want to live without it

It's true. You won't be able to stop until you personally want to stop. You say you can't find a reason to stop, but have you ever tried to make a list? When I wanted to stop, but at the same time didn't want to.. I would make a list of my reasons. A column of reasons to do it, and a column of reasons to stop. Sure, you may find more to do it, but when you think about it, the reasons to stop outweigh the others by far. You have to find that one huge reason to stop, and stick with it.

If you dig deep enough, there will be that one reason that will push you to stop.
