i trigger myself... - January 28th 2011, 07:30 PM

Whats really bad is that sometimes when I feel bad I look on the internet for articles, videos, and pictures of self injury. This only makes my whole situation worse because doing that triggers me to cut myself. its like when i see the pictures or watch videos of people talking about cutting, it just makes me want to do it more. it makes cutting sound more appealing sometimes, and it shouldnt, if anything it should make me not want to do it so that i dont have to go through it. i really need to stop triggering myself in this way, but i dont know how because its really tempting...any advice on how to not do this?

Try blocking the sites to these. It may help you with this. Also try looking for alternatives to SH!

What about every time you want to look up pictures or videos of things having to do with SH, you can look up pictures and videos of other things that you like? So, instead of looking up those specific pictures, you could instead youtube random videos or look up pictures of things that you love.

I agree with princess, you should try to find a better alternative to sh. Perhaps, instead of even looking at pictures of anything, you go out and create your own art? Photography always makes me feel safe. You have to try to find that one thing that will make you feel safe from yourself and stick with it. ^-^

Hey,

When you feel the urge to look up these pictures or videos, immediately go to a place on the internet that is positive. You can google positive quotes, listen to happy songs, etc.
Another way of resisting the urge to look up triggering material is to write your feelings down on a piece of paper or paint/draw onto a canvas.
