Do you ever not cover your cuts? - February 17th 2011, 05:21 AM

I don't know, sometimes I show my cuts, not like, bringing attention to them, they're just there. Someone could look if they wanted. I always watch their faces, to see if someone is looking. I guess, maybe sometimes I just want to know if people even notice what I'm doing to myself. Like, maybe one of these times, I'll want someone to say something to me. Even a little "Are you okay?"

I would, and do, always lie though, say I'm fine...make excuses. (even when they are obvious lies)

I don't know.....does anyone else do this?

Yes, but no.
Most people don't know that they're cuts. They all think that it's from softball.
So in a way, kinda.

When I first self-harmed, I covered it with a wristband but now I don't bother covering it because they know it's there but don't ask about it even though I lied about how I got it.

Re: Do you ever not cover your cuts? - February 17th 2011, 10:48 AM

I've showed them off before in eighth grade when they were less bad. I would take off my sweaters in certain classes and stuff and even though they know I was called down by the psychologist and went to guidance (They didn't know for what, I'd assume) they didn't make the connection as to why my arm was cut up. I'd even raise the arm with the cuts on them when a teacher was nearby, like when I wanted to answer a question, just to see if they would notice, and somehow nobody ever did. Now I don't do too many cuts on my arms because people think I stopped, so the only time they're ever uncovered is when I'm changing in gym class/in the shower/etc.

No, I normally just lie. I don't do it enough so the lies won't sound obvious. My mum noticed one on my arm a few days ago and I said I must have done it when I was sleeping. She scratches herself when she's sleeping so she didn't question it.

I know how you feel, I've felt like doing it before to see if anyone card a while back.

I don't cover my scars and a lot of my friends already know I have a history with it so I don't feel the need to. If I have new cuts then I'll cover them when I'm around people but if I'm just home alone or on my own in my room then I won't bother.

I cover my cuts when I am around family and during group therapy so I don't trigger the other group members especially. I cover them some other times too but mainly around family and during group.

I try to cover the cuts as much as possible, but i swim so that always causes problem - no one ever asks though, they just assume it is sports injury. Scars i don't always cover but i suppose that is different. :-)

When I did, the only time I'd not cover them is when I'd completely forget they were then. When I remember, I would.

I cover them up initially so it doesn't look too obvious but when it's only scars I don't bother if people notice then they've never said and I don't want to live my life in long sleeve t-shirts :/

I used to not wear stuff, but then someone asked me and then i realized how OBVIOUS it was. I wear bracelets all the time at school and only take them off at night, or when im sleeping, or am alone. Lets just put it this way: I HATE BRACELETS. but i have to suck it up. When the scars fade enough i stop covering them.

I always cover them. Even my scars. The scars on my wrist are too obvious to be mistaken for something else. And I never wear anything that shows my shoulder. I kind of group all my cuts in one place at a time, so if someone saw, lying would do no good.

I used to cover them, usually, but that was mostly because where I cut wasn't an area I'd leave uncovered anyway. A couple of times, when I cut on my arm, I didn't bother, but not many people even noticed.
I think part of it was me wanting them to notice. I wanted them to realise I was hurting, and to offer to help. They didn't. When I wanted help, I actually had to ask for it, and that annoyed me; but I've realised that it was probably better that way.

When I self-harmed, I would cover it up with wristbands, bracelets, etc. Now that I no longer cut, I don't cover any of my scars. I also have scars from martial arts, so I don't ever worry about anyone questioning my scars. Quite a few of them have faded anyways.

When I cut, I would ALWAYS cover my marks, unless I was in my room sleeping in a tank top. Now that I no longer cut, I still cover up my scars (most people don't know, not even my family), except when I'm alone, or with my boyfriend.

Yes, while I have fresh cuts I cover them up. I'll bandage them and what ever and just wear something which goes past a certain length on my legs, doesn't shot my hips and long sleeved tops so know one can see either cuts or bandages. Even though people know I self harm, I just couldn't imagine walking around with these cuts on show. Personally, I just prefer to cover them.

The only time I have fresh cuts uncovered is when I'm with my boyfriend - the ONLY person in the world who knows I cut or sees that part of my body. Otherwise, a pair of jeans does the trick to hide them.

The only exception to this is that one of my pairs of jeans has holes in the leg, one of which happens to be where I cut. So sometimes if I'm feeling daring and wondering if anyone would notice anyway, I'll wear those jeans and you could see the cuts if you looked. No one has ever noticed or said anything though. Not that I would tell them the truth anyway.

When I started, I didn't cover. Actually, I remembered, I stuck them out for someone to see and to say something. But back then, everyone at school did it because of a suburbian fad.
Once it got worse (first it was light scratches but then I was caught), then I hid them with this old band of cloth that was never washed. Eventually, I bought myself some gloves, the ones with the holes for your fingers, and hid them with those.
Then I was sent and after that I didn't cover it.
But now that I'm not the one doing it to myself, I try so damn hard to cover it.

I cover up anything new. Either with bandages or something until they're scars. I don't hide any scars anymore. Except for my shoulders because they're the most embarrassing.

I used to cover my cuts all the time. Only if my friend asked to see them, I would uncover them. She moderated me in a sense.. Kept me on track. I don't have a problem showing scars though. Those are my stories that only I truly know, and if somebody asks about them, it's my business not theirs.

I don't cover my slip ups now because they are always on my hands. Everyone just thinks that they're from art, engineering, playing my guitar.. etc. I'm a very hands on person.

Re: Do you ever not cover your cuts? - February 19th 2011, 05:48 PM

i always cover mine, i always cover my scars too, my tutor once saw my arm at college i didnt think and rolled my sleeves up and she them and asked what they were in front of the whole class, i just sorta sat there like and told her it was nothing, and pulled my sleeves down. i think if she had took me to one side or out of the room and asked me i would have said ' oh i did it' and just told my tutor straight out, but because she asked me in front of the whole class and everyone was just looking at me and my arm i just pulled my sleeve down and told her that it was nothing.

i keep them covered all the time now including my scars as on holiday last year someone saw the scars on my legs and asked me what they were i was like 'gnat bites' react badly. they seemed to buy that excuse, but i know this year will be harder to cover as i'm sharing a room with my nana who i will only have met for the third time so they will be alot harder to cover. but am hoping that bio oil will help make them fade abit. but whilst theres fresh cuts on my leg im not using the bio oil yet.

in answer to your question - no i keep mine covered up all the time.

I always try to cover it but if it would draw too much attention (like jumpers in summer) then no. I always try to hide the scars but sometimes I forget. Even then everyone buys even stupid excuses though, except people who know I SH or know my friends SH.
Kinda depressing that I can get away with it if I'm honest, but its much better than having people realise.

I always cover the ones on my shoulders up... But rarely the ones on my wrists. I just stick bracelets on normally.. Depending how bad they are, i put bandages on my wrist and say I sprained it if people ask :3

I don't cover them. Because they are battle scars. Scars that show a great victory over myself. And to me, my scars show me that I'm still alive.

The first time I did it I hid it for a few days and then decided "Fuck it, it's summer. I'm gonna wear whatever I want to." No one really said anything about it. But I know for a fact that they all knew. The teachers didn't do shit. The friends that did confront me about it didn't really help. The farthest that went was "I won't give you a hug until your cuts heal."

I don't mind showing scars that much, but I never show fresh cuts anymore. One of my only limitations is young kids.
