Self Injury awareness day - February 20th 2011, 10:28 AM

I know there is already a thread similar but my question is different :-)

1st March 2011, Self injury awareness day; it think it is a brilliant idea.
None of my family or friends care, my parents just looked at me and asked what i want anything to do with that for (They don't know i cut.) They responded as though it is the worst thing ever, has anyone else told their families about it?
Has anyone else got the wristbands or doing anything to promote it?
Do you think it will work and raise awareness or will people just ignore it?
Opinions wanted please

i dont know where you get the wrist bands from, and it doesnt help that this is the first time i've heard of it, but if i can find wristbands i'll deffinatly wear one.

and there's no reason why you can't at least try to raise awareness. a lot of people know about self harm but i dont think as many know why its done or what it does to people. so there's no harm in trying.

Maaan, I didn't even know about it! I might have to ask my mum yo buy me the wrist band. Although she's had problems with self harm too so she might even want one herself I like this.

I am just going to wear my orange TWLOHA shirt since I'm going to be speaking on behalf of TWLOHA anyways in two schools. One in Canada, and one in the US
It really does raise awareness depending on how you get through to people. If you relate with them, maybe some will relate with you as well. Some people find it a joke and laugh of the idea of it, but I'll tell you now from all the school I've spoke at around North America, usually the students and people that laugh about this issue in a group, are the ones that come up to you at the end of your speech to talk to you about their issues. It's strange how peers can influence.

Best of luck everyone on SIAD.

I'm planning on putting posters up around school, though i doubt the teachers will react well and you always have the stupid people who find it funny. But hopefully some people will notice and take it seriously. :-)

I like the idea of wearing your TWLOHA shirt (: I don't really have much orange so I think I'm going to do what you're doing and wear my TWLOHA shirt. Also, I'm going to try to find orange ribbon & pin it to whatever i'm wearing. And if I can't find orange ribbon I'm going to just draw the orange ribbon on my hand or something
