Unhappy Something new - February 24th 2011, 09:40 PM

I havent cut in 6 months.which I'm glad about.this past weekend though I was dreaming about it and when I woke up I had really bad scratches on my arm, the next night I woke up with even more.It upset me so I went and cut off all my nails but i just have been having horrible urges to scratch my arms.my scratches are really bad and won't heal yet and keep bleeding.I've never hurt myself with just scratching before,I'm at my wits end.I don't want to devolpe a new way to hurt myself and what scares me is I did it in my sleep.how do I prevent that???I feel rather crazy.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Hey Lili,

I've had this problem before too, and I can't say there's really anything I found to help prevent me from doing it. You already cut off your nails, so that's a start. Maybe you could wear thin gloves or something like that when you go to bed; as long as you don't take them off in your sleep.

The only way to really fix this problem, is to figure out the underlying issues. In the dream did you feel any sort of emotion, if so, can you think of why you were maybe feeling that way? If you can figure those things out, then you should be able to pin point why you're feeling the need to SH and you can work out the problem.

Another thing I suggest is keeping a diary/journal. If every night before bed you write down things about your day, how you're feeling and why, etc. it might help you feel less of those negative emotions while you sleep.

Sorry if this didn't help much. Feel free to PM me

Take care,
<3 Boxy
