i was doing good until now - March 20th 2011, 10:45 PM

i haven't cut in weeks, but today i really have an urge to do it. i wish i could make the feeling go away, but i can't. ):

Hey there

Firstly I want to make sure you know how great it is that you haven't cut in weeks. That an amazing accomplishment and something to be proud of. Perhaps use that in a way to try and stop yourself from cutting now. If you have gotten through entire weeks then you can get through tonight.

Right now I'm going to suggest you use distractions, distractions and more distractions. So take a look at this list of alternatives. I know sometimes when we have the urges and feel like we want to cut ourselves it can be quite difficult to find the motivation to try distractions but you really have to force yourself. And when you come across something which doesn't tend to help (because not every single thing will help you) you have to forget about that one and try something else. Don't let it set you back because there will also be things which do help you, its just a matter of finding what.

You're hurting enough already and you honestly don't deserve any more pain. You hurting yourself is only going to cause more. You're better than self harm and you do have the strength somewhere. Do you know what is triggering you to want to cut? If you do then you are more than welcome to try and talk to us about it if you want to, and we can try and help you and talk through it with you. It is completely up to you.

Talking to people about what is bothering you or you thoughts or just how you feel can really help. Like I said we're here if you want to talk to us but if not you could think about talking to a friend, a family member, a teacher, a nurse, a doctor, or look in to counseling for some support. Also have you tried to talk to a helpline http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f3-general/t22-hotlines/. These people are here to help you and know its hard for you to open up. They won't judge you and they can be really helpful people. It might be worth a try contacting one of them.

You can beat these urges. You're worth so much more than self harm. I really hope this helps you.

I heard of this idea called the butterfly project, I'm not sure if it works as I've not tried it but if you draw a butterfly on the place you normally cut, it can relieve the feeling you have of cutting by distracting that part of the brain. All I would say is give it a try, after all its worth a shot.
