burning fire - March 25th 2011, 03:45 AM

I am turning 14 very soon and i have had a facination for fire since i was 9. sometimes out of curiosity i would get to close and get burned. my parents, my friends and pretty much everyone who knows me are never suprised to see a burn mark on me. But lately i am going through a very hard time in my life and i have discovered a new facination with burning myself nobody has even noticed how depressed i have been. nobody has noticed the difference in how much more often i am getting burned and im not sure i even care.

Re: burning fire - March 25th 2011, 04:01 AM

I'm so sorry! I hate when things in life aren't going the way you want it to!! Life's honestly a b-i-t-c-h sometimes but you will get through it! You're a tough, strong person! But...
#1. Why are you burning yourself? You like the pain? It's fun? It's a distraction? It takes you away from what's happening in your life presently so you can concentrate on the physical rather than the emotional? If you don' have the burning you don't have something you are controlling that gives you power? What's going on there?
#2. You mentioned that no one has noticed you are depressed....Are you doing this to get other people's attention? Do you want them to notice you because of the burns? Are these people really that negligent with you that they only notice you when you are putting yourself in serious danger?
#3. How severe and how noticeable are these burns and who do you want to see them? Who do you want to notice specifically? Often times we cast the whole world as unloving toward us when in fact it's a certain group of people or just one individual who has practically ostracized us and we NEED their love or acceptance.
#4. What's going on in your life that makes you feel depressed? And then what makes you burn yourself? Is it the depression from circumstances that leads to the burning or is it the unacknowledgment of your depression that people give you that prompts the burning? Or is it the unawknowledgment of the burning that prompts more burning and in turn more depression? Basically, what's coming first here...the burning or depression?
#5. Pm me anytime you want to talk..I've been through just about everything and I would love to help understand your situation and help you through all of this! Anything you don't want to share on here you can just pm me or someone else at TH because we are all here for you but posting all your problems on a post here might make you feel uncomfortable if you are one of the more private people and like to be selective with who to trust and what to share with who.
Thanks so much and keep posting! I would love to hear how all of this goes!!

Shya hon I just read your post. I can't express how sorry I am that you're going through this <\3. You've gotta go see a sleep specialist sweetie. But why does this make you feel like you've gotta cause yourself pain. What are you getting out of burning yourself? Escape, release, adrenaline...? And is it really worth it Shya?

Re: burning fire - March 25th 2011, 04:14 AM

i have always been facinated with fire i guess adrenaline would be a good way to describe why. but i only recently started to burn myself on purpose and i guess its just a distraction it helps me to not concentrate on the things in my life that are alot worse. i am not hiding it everyone sees it and notices just no one is suprised to see it they just assume it is an accident like usual i am not doing it for attention i just randomly do it sometimes and its usually an in the moment kind of thing. and when i do it i am usually not thinking it makes me feel better or anything like that usually everytime i do it the exact same thing is always going through my head "i wonder what happens if i..." or "oh wow so cool i wanna touch it!". i guess this could also go under addictive behaviors sorry.

Shya sweetie, what about the pain though? Doesn't that make you wanna stop? And okay I know this isn't easy but would you be willing to talk to someone and explain what you've been explaining to me? It could really help you if you've got someone around to talk to about this. PM me any time honey. Please try to take care of yourself. Whatever your reason the results are the sane. It's hurting you. Your body deserves your gentleness and respect.

Heyy,

Fire's something you shouldn't get too close to anyway and burning yourself isn't good. I know it might take away your focus on other things, but there are many many other ways you can do this. Have you looked at the Self harm alternatives? I think it might me of use to you, so take a look here: http://www.teenhelp.org/alternatives

If you ever want to PM me and talk about whatever is bringing you down, feel free to. No-one deserves to feel so upset and like hurting themselves helps, because it doesn't. Keep your chin up. <3

I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. I wish I could say everything will be better but right now they may not be. Maybe someday they will. I'm here for you. I used to be a cutter and that's how i got through things. It's not right. It's the way to go through things. It'll just cause scars on your body. There has to be a better way to go through this. Friends? family? maybe they are there to talk to you. Sometimes the emotions aren't easily seen. Sometimes its hidden inside until it feels worse. an it's not good i'm here for you if you need to talk. I'm here message me anytime you want.
