I think I cut too deep? - April 10th 2011, 08:12 PM

So I cut myself...again. With a piece of broken glass. But shit...I didn't mean to cut this deep. It's not too bad, but it's the deepest I've ever cut. It's on my thigh. It bled for a few minutes but I got it to stop. I cleaned it and put anti-bacterial cream on it. Then I put on a butterfly bandage and a bigger bandaid over that. I don't know if I need stitches or not... I didn't mean to cut this deep. I'm so scared. I can't tell my mom because she will freak out. She always does when I cut myself. I don't know what to do and I'm really scared.

Hey Shelby,

You say it stopped bleeding after a few minutes, which suggests that it isn't too deep. If it has stopped bleeding and scabbed over then it should be ok. It is good you are taking care of your wounds because that will stop all kinds of infections. If the cut doesn't seem to be healing properley though or you are unsure if it is too deep then I would suggest you see your doctor because they will be able to help you. I hope things go ok for you.

Stay strong.

Hey there.

I agree with what Jen has said. I think it sounds like your cut is okay but I'd keep an eye on it to make sure. It's really great that you're taking of your cuts when you do self harm and I encourage you to carry on doing so because infections can easily be caught.

I'm just going to send you this list of alternatives . Not everything will work for you so its all about trial and error. Don't give up on every single distraction just because a few of them don't help you.

You're stronger than self harm and if you ever want to talk about whats making you feel so bad that you want to hurt yourself, you're more than welcome to talk to us.

Stay safe,
Jessie.
