I'm having a panic attack because my mom took my lighter - May 1st 2011, 11:39 PM

I've done good the last 2 nights and not burned myself, but this morning my mom took my lighter. It's not like I'm planning on burning on myself tonight, but knowing I won't be able to is freaking me out and that is making me want to burn myself. What should I do to keep my mind off of this?

Hey Devon.

The reason this is happening is because to you, having the lighter there is a safety net - even if you don't use it, you know you can.

I'd recommend doing something to take your mind off it. You could try one or more things from our alternatives list. There should be at least one that appeals to you.

If you can, try and be around people. Friends, even your family. They can help keep you distracted; you don't have to tell them why you need to be distracted, just let them keep you entertained.

Also, it's great you haven't burned yourself for that long - keep it up!

Take care.
