Urges are back - March 8th 2009, 06:51 PM

Well I keep getting more urges and they last for longer. Can everyone list all the bad things about self harm on this thread? I think of not being able to wear short sleeves fr a while and it usually helps the urge to go away so if people could list more bad points then it'd really help. Also, it might even help other people who have urges.

Hmm accidently doing more damage than intended. The obvious restriction of clothes you're able to wear. Seeing the scars when you're feeling okay can bring you crashing right back down.
That's all I can think of at the moment, sorry.

- I'm not strong enough to stay away -
- and I wanna leave -
- and I wanna stay -
- And I'm so confused -
- So hard to choose between the pleasure and the pain -

I always feel like crap after a slip. It's better to wait out an urge then feel like that.

you'll probably feel like crap after the high is gone
if you can't wear short sleeves you'll probably feel like a freak walking around with long sleeves while everyone else has tshirts
no one wants more scars

I need you Jesus
To come to my rescue
Where else can I go?

Well people will think you're weird, you can't wear certain clothes, and the scars stay with you.

This is a really good idea, to write the bad things about self harming down and compare them to the good thing. You can see then that it isnt worth hurting yourself, especially when there are other ways around things! I think the main ones have already been said but i will go ahead and put in my piece anyway

. Restrictions on clothing
. Feeling guilty/ashamed
. It gets you addicted
. The feeling it gives you hardly lasts
. Being isolated from others
. Stigma associated with it, people not understanding

Im sure there are quite a few more, but i cant think of them right now. Well done for this and remember, just because you have an urge to do it doesnt mean you have to!
