Again. - May 16th 2011, 04:39 AM

I went to the store today and bought a pencil sharpener knowing that if I had the right sized screw driver I could get the blade out of it. I got the blade out and just cut again. I know that I shouldn't but every time that I get frustrated I want to cut. I just cut and now see why razor blades are preferred over knives for cutting. What should I do so that I don't cut again?

Well first of all, you should flush all your sharp objects away RIGHT NOW! Do not subject yourself to any sharp objects! I know it's hard but think how great you'll feel when you resist the urge to hurt yourself.

You need to replace cutting with something else. It can be anything healthy. Maybe draw red on the areas you cut to simulate the cuts. I know it's not the same but it's more the idea of seeing the cut rather then making the cut. Go for a run! All your doing when you cut is release endorphins. You release the same thing when you exercise. Go sprint and tire yourself out or do ab crunches until you can't anymore. Put your face in a cold of ice water. Or hold something from the freezer on your forehead. But you have to do this for AT LEST 5minutes! Take a warm bath to relax yourself. Look go online and look up useful ways to stop self-harming. Call at hotline! They are very helpful in calming you down. There is another thing I just read about in these forums actually called Project Toe. You are able to text when your having a urge. I'll post the link below. It seems like a great idea.

But most importantly you must make your parents aware of how you are feeling. You then will be able to get the help that you need. They can take the right actions in order to make you feel better and cope more effectively. Or if you feel you can't tell your parents you should tell a counselor at school. You must tell a trusted adult about how you are feeling. If you don't you may never get the help you need or feel better.

I for one really understand how self-harm can start to run your life. I use to self-harm all the time, but have recovered. But only YOU can make the well needed changes to feel better and STOP the bad habits. Do ANYTHING that will remotely distract you from hurting yourself! Take that first step! Good luck and be SAFE! We all are here to help, guide, and support you!

Re: Again. - May 17th 2011, 12:18 AM

I told my mom a while back and she didn't do anything about it. My next step would be to tell a teacher at school I guess. Since I just got the blade yesterday and it's in a sharpener that i can put together and take apart again I'm scared to throw it away because my mom will then get annoyed. I'm also scared to throw the blade away in general. I guess the blade is like a security blanket. I know that I need to stop though. I think I will try to use Project Toe. Although I've found before that when I get urges to cut I usually have misplaced my phone. Do you have any suggestions as to alternatives to use?

I've looked at the alternatives. The ones on the site are stuff I've tried before but usually get in trouble. Or people ask too many questions.
