Minimising scarring? - June 23rd 2011, 01:12 PM

I've just come back from a wound check, and the steri-strips they put on haven't worked because my cuts were too deep and they've pulled open.
One isn't too bad, just a bit icky, but the other is gaping about a centimeter wide, if not more. They can't do anything about it cause it's not brand new, and for now it's got an Inadine patch and a new dressing on, but I wondered, whats the best way, once the dressings have gone, to minimise scarring?
I can't use Bio-oil because they wont be healed skin yet, just like, scabbed/scabbing.
But is there something to keep damage to a minimum?

I know it will scar, there's no doubt, because it's huge. But the less of a scar it makes the better.

I live in the UK, so something that I can get OTC or from say Boots or Superdrug would be good

Thanks.

Once it is healed you could use things like scar cream, mederma works well but I don't know if they have it in the UK.

Other than that, I don't think there's much you can do until they're healed, just keep them clean and try to not open them up any further.
