Hi everyone,

I am a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan and I am completing a study about the role of emotional and interpersonal factors in self-injury as part of my dissertation work. After watching a number of friends and family members suffer through self-injury I dedicated my research to better understanding the experience of self-injury and to working towards helping people recover.

I am looking for volunteers over 18 years of age with or without self-injury experiences to complete an online survey about their emotions, and parental and peer factors. Please feel free to post here or message me if you have any questions. All participation is greatly appreciated!

I have also included some useful websites/books about self-injury (and local resources, although these are limited to Calgary, Alberta and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada as this is where I am looking for local participants).

Individuals may be from any location/country to participate.

The results of the study will also be available to those interested – if you would like a summary of the results send me a message and I will forward them when the study is completed (although that will likely be many months from now).

Just a warning that some questions could be triggering. At one point it asks if you have ever harmed yourself intentionally and then goes on to ask yes/no questions about some methods. Some I had never even thought of before so it could give some people ideas about self harm and trigger.

I'm not sure what you mean but when you answer the yes no questions on self harm methods it will then ask you questions about the ones you said yes to and skip the questions on the ones to said no to. So the question numbers jump, if you say no to all then the questionnaire jumps to the end.

Yeah I haven't done it for years so it was hard to remember how old I was specifically and how many times I did each method.

Yeah, I tried to count my scars to give a vague idea of how many times I've cut, but I've been doing it for years so it was prettymuch impossible haha but I suppose even a rough estimate is going to help for the research.

I've been doing it for so long, not all of them left permanent scars. I just rounded too 100

Also, yes it can be very difficult (or even impossible!) to answer the questions with specific numbers. These are so I can get a better idea of your experiences generally so answering with an estimate is good too

As a psychology major, I would be interested in seeing/hearing the results.

And I, too, had difficulty when it came to numbers. I don't know how many times I've done this, this, or that. I couldn't even estimate; not everything has always left scars, and some have faded over time.
