The scars won`t go away. - August 6th 2011, 04:31 AM

First off, let me just say that I don`t cut anymore. I managed to stop on my own. However, the last time I did cut, I did it on my upper and lower thigh, and the scars won`t go away. I did them maybe 2-3 weeks ago I think. Yes, I know, not very long to call it an accomplishment, but I swear I'm never cutting again. The scars are still there, and it`s summer, and my family is going camping in two weeks, and to a lake. We`re going for 5 days. That means swimming almost every day. I don`t know what to do. I`ve gotten myself out of 2 swims already, and I wore shorts for another, but I can`t wear shorts for all the days, that would look suspicious.

So what I`m asking is, does anyone know how to get the scars to go away, or at least hide them without my parents noticing something strange? Don`t tell me to just let them see them and tell them that I`m done now, because I promise you that that would not be the end of it. The cuts were deep enough to bleed, but only briefly. I wouldn't say they were that bad, but they`re definitely noticeable, especially if I`m in the lake, swimming for five days. And I can`t just not swim, because that would be suspicious too.

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Well two weeks is a good accomplishment!

For covering up your scars when swimming just wear your shorts till you get into the water. Thats what I do and usually if the scars arent really bad people dont seem to notice them. At least thats with the people I'm around. So i guess it might be different with your family. Hope it goes well

Hey there,

Well done for not self harming for two weeks, that's great!

As the previous poster has stated, take off your shorts when you get to the water. Alternatively, you can put make-up on them to make the scars less visible; however it'll most likely wash off in the water.

Take care,
Lex.

I have scars on my thighs too, I know how you feel!! Try putting bio oil or Vitamin E on them while you can ~ it won't make them disappear but it'll lessen them. Like the others have suggested, wear shorts?? You could pretend you're on your period or something?? You could also put plasters over the cuts and maybe wear a little skirt thing over your swimming togs, or you could try make up on them, like people have said ~ that's worked for me before, although there is a possibility it'll wash off in the water.

hey, great job !
so when i used to SH and had to get rid of my scars really quickly due Dr Appts etc, i put mederma on it everyday. i also would break open capsules of vitamin c and put that on it because vitamin E is supposed to help with scarring and healing. I think vitamin c can even out skin tone and dark spots if the scar is dark. If there was anything left i would cover it with makeup, however if it's swimming you're trying to do, that may not work. Another idea is you could wear swim shorts or you could always pull the period card for that one. I wish you the best of luck (:
