Just wondering... -
August 10th 2011, 05:47 AM
Hey there,
This is probaly going to sound like a stupid question but is it okay to "reward" yourself for going a certain amount of time without SH?? Every week I go without self harming I make these little colorful beaded bracelets, I've always really liked them and its really the only "artistic" thing I'm good, they give me slight insentive to keep going, especially when wearing them, they help pull me through. Also this saturday will mark 2 months that I have been clean ( the longest in 6 1/2 years that I have been clean, so a really big deal to me ![]() ) and I plan on getting a rook piercing, its one I've wanted for a long time, so it would be kinda like a reward. I've had some people tell me that giving yourself a reward defeats the purpose and that you only don't self harm so you can get the reward, not so you can get better or move forward, I think it just offers a little more of a push to keep going. So what do you guys think, is it okay to reward yourself or does it defeat the purpose of getting better?? I think it's a great idea. If it helps you, go for it.

I definitely think it's okay to reward yourself. It's difficult by just saying "I'm going to stop this right now". A lot of people set goals with rewards at the end for losing weight, so I don't see why you couldn't do it with anything else. Hopefully one day, you'll reach the point that you don't need the 'rewards' to keep you going...
Everyone has different ways of getting themselves to stop, and I'm glad that your way. (: Keep it up<3 And congrats on being clean. (: Stay strong<3 <3 ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey there.
Of course that's okay. In fact it's a really good idea I hope things carry on going well for you! Hey there,
I think this is a really good idea, i will help give you an incentive to stop and hopefully eventually you won't need the rewards to help you with this, I hope it all works out well. ![]() Charli

Rewarding yourself is sometimes the best incentive. I always tell people when alternatives don't work.. to reward yourself every time you reach a goal.
And I find it funny.. Because when I reach 2 months.. I was going to go get my rook pierced too! Small world, isn't it. "Although only breath, words which I command are immortal." Sappho

It is actually a VERY GOOD idea to reward yourself. It helps give you a reason.
