I don't think its normal to want to hurt oneself, but it is an alarming number of people's behavior. However, even those who make a habit of harming themselves want to stop because it hurts.
In short, no. Maybe the feelings. But not the acting upon them. |

It's not normal, but unfortunately, many people hurt themselves as a way of coping and it's being found out more and more the numbers of people hurting themselves across the world, I think it's unfortunately common, it's just we don't always see it because people can get very good at hiding it and do to try and prevent interference with there habit and addiction that they think is helpful or that they so desperately want to stop but can't on there own because they're to far in to it.
I'm going to be extremely honest with you, do not start cutting, once you start cutting and the longer you cut, the farther into the cutting you get and the harder it gets to stop cutting, that's why people have the problem stopping, it gets addicting. Exercise would be a great way to deal with wanting to self harm because when you exercise, you release these hormones in your brain that are similar to those released when cutting and not only is exercise good for you, it also can help get rid of feelings you may have of anger and sadness by all of the energy that is required. I think you should look at alternatives www.teenhelp.org/alternatives and try finding someone to talk to, whether that's a friend, your parents or anyone you feel you can trust to talk to about this. I hope I've helped and if you ever need anything, you can PM me, I'll be glad to help. "When my life is like a storm

No. It's not normal to want to hurt yourself at all. You can stop this now though, by finding healthy ways to deal with stuff. If you can't find healthy ways that work, you should consider counseling of some sort so they can help
"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |
