I don't know if I should tell. -

Okay, so I started cutting about 5 months ago and nobody knows. The other day at school one of my closest friends saw some cuts on my arm and asked about them. I just told her that my cat got me and she just looked at me like she knew I was lying and said "Oh".
She used to cut, but not anywhere near as bad as I do. I want to tell her but at the same time I don't because I don't know if she'll understand that I can't just stop. We tell each other everything and I feel bad about not telling her about this. She's the only person I trust because most of my other friends think that cutting is stupid and pathetic. I'm afraid that she'll tell someone because I don't want anyone knowing except for her. So should I tell her or not? |

If she has done it before then she will probably understand. If she did tell someone it would only be because she cares about you and doesn't want you to hurt yourself, especially if she's been through this before and she doesn't want you to get stuck in the same cycle.

Welcome to TeenHelp.
I think that if your friend used to cut then she will probably understand. If you trust her, then I say you should tell her. It's not good to hold in feelings about self-harm, or anything else for that matter. You can ask her not to tell anyone, but you said you trust her, so I don't see why you'd be scared to tell her because of the slim chance she'd tell. If she did tell, she may tell someone who will help you because she doesn't want you to hurt yourself too badly. Take care and I hope you figure out what's best for you in this situation. I must say that I agree with everyone else above! And I want to tell you that I didnt tell anyone about my cutting for over a year, when I did it was the best decision I ever made. She gave me support and encouraged me to get help. I couldnt have done it without her! I hope this helps! Feel free to PM or VM me

If your friend has Self Harmed herself before then the chances are that she will understand how hard it is to stop. I would suggest talking to her because you then have the support of someone close to you and someone that understands what you are going through. I would say yes. She has gone through what you are going through now. So she knows how difficult it is to stop. She has probably felt everything you are feeling right now. And even if she does tell someone, it might be with the best intentions. You trust her. So just tell her. You'll feel a whole lot better.

I thought about it over the weekend and I kind of think she was doing it more for attention than seriousness. She's sort of one of those people who wants to be "emo" and thinks cutting is cool. But she has a few reasons to SH, I guess.
I can't really tell if she's serious or not. |
