Scars - September 20th 2011, 02:14 AM

Do you hide your scars? or do you not care if people see them?

I hide mine. But when I need to talk to a friend who knows that I cut, then I show her so she can KNOW that I am doing it and I need her help. But from everyone else, I hide mine.

Re: Scars - September 20th 2011, 04:18 AM

Over the years I have found that the less I try to hide them, the less people think of them. Wearing too much clothing is not pleasant, so I don't, but attempts to hide my scars without sleeves & long leg coverings tends to mean wearing something else that draws the eye to the places I'm trying to distract from. That's when people notice and ask, or notice and pointedly say nothing. When I don't cover them at all and just let them be, then anybody who happens to notice either apparently thinks nothing of them or asks if I still have the cat that did it to me.

Re: Scars - September 20th 2011, 04:35 AM

I only hide certain ones from certain people. The ones on my arm, I really don't care who sees them anymore. It was a hot ass summer, I couldn't possibly work with long sleeves in 100 degree heat! Plus they're not super noticeably SH scars, not to my parents anyway (the only people I'm worried about finding out) Other than that, I only hide the ones on my leg, and for that reason. But I'm like, addicted to jeans anyway so it's all good lol

That being said, I certainly don't show them off either. Same goes for the ones on my legs, soon enough I'm sure I'll stop caring who sees them and who doesn't. It's like that old Dr. Seuss saying. Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Hell, I got so bad that when I had bandages I didn't even hide them from high school class mates. It was the end of the year, I just didn't care anymore lol

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

The scars on my arm, I said I had a wrestling match with a cat, and all my other scars aren't in obvious places so as long as i wear a shirt or shorts not above 5 inches from the knee, they won't be seen.

I hide them, mainly because my parents don't know, but I think that may change today. If they know, I won't hide them, and I might tell them.

I always wear long sleeved top, day and night, hot and cold, because mine are very noticeable and there's not just a few and I don't honestly feel comfortable having people see them. I hide the ones on my legs too.

Although I would like to say I look up to you people who don't mind what people think or say and go for it anyway, you're an inspiration to me. I think that's really brave.

Re: Scars - September 20th 2011, 02:02 PM

I have always cared what people thought about my scars until recently. I used to hide my wrist with bracelets and my arms with long sleeves but it gets really hot in the summer and I couldn't do it anymore. I took off my bracelets and the long sleeves and decided to say "who cares" - this is a symbol of who I am, what I've been through, and what I don't want to do anymore. I'm not hiding anymore. I can't hide my permanent scars forever.

Re: Scars - September 20th 2011, 06:22 PM

I don't hide the ones on my arms, because it is simply ridiculous to hide them all year, and I really don't like long sleeves, and hoodies are very impractical when it's blazing hot outside. And even six years ago before it all started, my friends knew I hated long sleeves, so when I started wearing them at the time.. they noticed the length right away. Didn't ask further, but they noticed.

Anywhere else though, I don't necessarily hide them, but I do try hard to not let people see them.

Re: Scars - September 20th 2011, 08:05 PM

It depends. Around the house, I don't bother because everyone knows. If I'm going out somewhere, I try to cover up, but if I'm not going to see anyone I know, it doesn't bother me as much, though I still prefer to hide them. However, I can't go out with friends, to work, around town or anywhere local without covering up. Even in summer, I had to hide them. They make me feel ugly, and I don't feel people deserve to see into my private life.

I didn't use to hide them, but since one of my friends asked me if I cut, I'm going to hide them most of the time.

Re: Scars - September 21st 2011, 06:03 PM

The deep scars on my arms have faded a lot, so they aren't too noticable. If you looked at them directly its obvious but when you're not looking for it it's hard to notice. Because of that I don't mind too much about covering them up as they're not completely in your face. I would NEVER go "look at my horrible scars!", I just need to keep myself cool! Same to the ones on my legs, when I was on holiday I was terrified that everyone was going to stare but nobody really took much notice.
If they were fresh or recent scars, then yes i'd cover up completely. But now they're fading it doesn't seem too bad x

Most of mine are on my stomach, so they are always hidden. I have a few on my arms that I don't bother to hide because they aren't all that obvious.

I usually don't try to hide them. I don't show them off, either. I get self conscious, because I have two scars on the back of my left hand, and these little kids I was hanging out with (my babies ) asked me where I got them. Usually I just don't draw attention to them.

I cut on my upper forearm so I usually wear shirts that cover it, or if I wear a tank top, I am self conscious anyways so I wear a cardigan with it. Sometimes it's shown and I don't realize and I try to cover it up to make it not as obvious.

I used to worry about covering up but now the scars have faded to the point where ud have to be looking. I dont hide then or pay much mind, who knows if anyones really taken notice. But I love jewelry so I always wear a bunch of bracelets anyways.

I don't hide them. I'm proud of my scars. They show what I've been through and that I actually survived it. People see them, ask if I used to cut.. I say "Yeah, I USED to cut."... I used to be really self-concious about them. But, now.. I'm ok with them.

I only every cut once and I was really upset with myself for it and really embarrassed by it. But a lot was going on then and it has been quite a few month's now too so they don't bother me so much anymore because I know I will never do it again and I don't hide it.
