Things are getting worse. - October 31st 2011, 02:47 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

A couple of weeks ago I started cutting again after being clean for 4 1/2 months. And I think right now it's the worst it's ever been. I cut multiple times a day and I've started carving various words. My roommate took all sharp objects in our room and locked them up. But when I couldn't take not cutting anymore, I went to the store and bought something else I could cut with. Ever since that, it's been getting worse. But now that I'm back into the swing of things, I don't really want to stop. I don't know what's wrong with me. And I don't know what to do.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "happy." They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life." --John Lennon

"What matters isn't that you fell, but that you got back up. No matter how many times it takes, it's that you get back up. We fall down and all isn't lost." --Renee Yohe

Firstly well done on lastly 4 1/2 months it is a great acheivement.

As for you relapse, write down why you do/did want to stop. Write down all the negatives of self harm such as it leaves scars. Then everytime you want to self harm read them.

Also look on the alternatives thread and write on pieces of paper a selection of the distrations and then put these into a box, then when you get an urge pull out a distraction from the box and do it. If it doesn't work pull out another one etc until the urge has gone.

Your roommate seems really supportive. So maybe when you get an urge you could talk, text or phone her. You don't have to say it is becuase you have an urge, you could just have a general chit chat. But this will hopefully distract you.

I hope this helped even just a little bit

"Casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." 2 Timothy 1:7

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2
