Bleeding gums - November 4th 2011, 02:24 PM

So I have tried to stay away from cutting, but I do slip sometimes. But over the past few months I have noticed that I have found a different form of SH and I didn't realize I was actually doing it in a harmful way until my brother pointed it out. Ive been over flossing my teeth to the point where my gums will bleed alot and become sore. I have bad teeth, and I started to make sure I flossed and brushed like I should, but now im afraid that over flossing is going to mess up my gums. What should I do? I think that I just need to make regular appointments with my dentist so I will know I have someone constantly looking at my gums. I wouldnt want him to see what Im doing. I just want to see what you guys think.

That's a really good idea, to keep getting regular check ups to put you off over flossing. I think you should definitely do that, it would go a long way towards helping you stop the harmful behaviour. Alternatively, you could give up flossing. I know you want to keep your teeth healthy though, so that probably wouldn't be a good idea.

With the cutting, well done on trying to stop, that takes a lot of courage. If you ever need to chat, feel free to message me
