Walking Backwards. - November 18th 2011, 04:24 AM

If you've been keeping up with my posts lately, you know that I've been going through a tough time. I can't believe how tempted I am to cut right now. At this point, I think it's just to make sure I still bleed. I've come close to etching words into myself that will constantly remind me of what I look like to my parents. Ugly. Worthless. Disappointing. Fat. I don't like this. I don't like how tempted I am to walk back to my old ways, but I'm not really finding another option right now. I'm just emotionally drained and there's really nothing else to it. Does anyone have any alternatives they can offer up?? I really don't want to fall back into this habit.

Have you tried things like drawing, painting, or writing to express your emotions?

You need to know what kind of "triggers" you to be able to use the right alternative, though. The Alternatives to Self-Harm post here has A LOT of ideas to try for different reasons why most people self-harm, so take a look and see if anything sticks out.

I don't know how close to the country/parks you live but, Go for a walk. Find a quiet place on the walk and make it noisy. Scream, shout, throw rocks at trees (I used to throw books at doors, but parents/housemates aren't usually supportive of that one). Find a rock or stick and scratch the words into a tree or the ground. Use all your strength and energy doing at it.
A lot of people have mentioned the alternative page, so definitely check that out. An I'm new here so don't know your story (so forgive me is this is something you've tried/not possible), but have you talked to your parents? It was never something that was an option for me at the time, but it has help since....

I'll definitely go check out that forum!
Dopey: I don't live too close to the country, but I'm sure I can find a secluded place to go a little bit crazy. Hahah. Don't worry about not knowing my story, but talking to my parents really isn't something I can do. They're part of the reason I hurt so much. Also, welcome to TH.

As the above posters, I would defiently try a new activity to keep your mind occupied and to make yourself happy. Stay Strong!
