Getting Rid Of Scars. - December 18th 2011, 12:57 AM

I have a couple NASTY scars from the last time I cut myself. They're not healing right either, so I'm positive they're going to stay. I'm tired of people looking at my wrists like I'm some kind of freak. But, I know I can't wear long sleeves forever, either. I live in Southern California, so I can't even make it through winter in long sleeves alone. I could really use some techniques on covering the scars, besides massive amounts of bracelets and long sleeve shirts.

Well, to be honest, it's very hard to get rid of scars. If anything, it takes time for them to fade (years). Other than that, try Bio-oil or Cocoa Butter to help heal a bit better. Also, tanning helps, but I suggest using tanning lotions (bronzing lotions) that will gradually make your skin tan and it's not as harmful as the sun or tanning booth. This also takes time. Usually a few months for the first level of skin change. If you want darker, you then go with the same brand of lotion but a darker solution. Repeat.

This will start making it less visible. The only way to get rid of scars is surgery, which isn't an option for most people.

You might want to look into the Dermablend brand. They have some great stuff to hide blemishes, scars, etc. They tend to be expensive, but are great makeup products for just using on daily basis or special occasions.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...

Thanks so much! Surgery definitely isn't an option for me, but I'll look into some of the other things you've suggested.

I read one day that aloe Vera helps and anything with vitamin E so I have this lotion with both in it. I put it on every day and night for like a week and they already faded more then they had in a few months.

Different studies show different results with Vitamin E, but it can't hurt to try it.
Nice suggestion.

Hey there,

Scars are hard t get rid of, they are usually there for a long time before they being to fade and some won't ever go completely.
As suggest above, things liike Bio oil will help to make the scars fade and aloe vera perhaps. Or even just covering them up with make up.
In time they will fade, just remember you're beautiful

I know this is going to be dumb to say, but I would try to embrace your scars. They're part of who you are now, and you can't change them. I try to just accept mine, it makes me feel better about myself.
Screw the people who stare, they obviously don't know what the word sad means.

That doesn't sound dumb at all! Honestly, that's what one of my best friends told me. She said they're a mark of everything that I've been through and the fact that I never gave up, even when it got hard. I dunno. Maybe I should just try to embrace them.

Yes! You should! I agree. I don't hide my scars.. cause, I really have nothing to hide. I'm proud of who I am. And, noone has the right to judge my past. I've changed alot since I've been homeschooled. So, when I move.. I'm going to become a new person and start all over. I'm going to wear short sleeves there and not hide my arms. If someone has something to say about my scars.. oh well. They can't say anything about the person I used to be. They're not really too great of a person if they do. And, I'm actually planning to get a heart tattoo on my wrist with the words in my username representing what I went through. (I think I already told you that before. ) Because, if I didn't go through that.. I wouldn't be where I am today. Something good always comes out of bad situations. Stay strong, and love who you are, Sammi. I wuv you, Girlie.
