Butterfly project helping and making things worse? - January 5th 2012, 07:49 AM

I feel so confused. I started the Butterfly project recently, and it's helping... kinda, and it's also making things worse. I drew a butterfly on myself everytime I had an urge. This girl... who i'll call Josie keeps calling me a freak for drawing on myself. Then this other girl whom i'll call Anna said that i'll get detention and was acting all goody goody. Well... my IT teacher walked past just when I was getting hacked off with everyone and yelled at me for drawing on myself. Anna smirked and had this REALLY annoying look on her face and kept looking at me with it! Basically, I hate my IT teacher, for MANY reasons, I also hate my dt teacher, for MANY reasons. But... I don't know, I haven't SH too badly since i started, i mean I haven't SHed at all. But it's getting annoying, how people keep yelling at me and screaming at me, for what to me seems like scolding me for trying to stop self harming. It's unfair for my IT teacher, because he doesn't know, but i'm fed up of him yelling at me when there are boys in my class who do much worse. Sometimes... I don't know why i even stop trying to SH when people keep scolding me for trying to stop, and keep telling me to go cut myself.

Hey there,
Next time people react like that, think about how you don't want to see their reactions to the scars you can get from SH. I hope that will help you go on with this project with confidence!

I just started the Butterfly Project today ..
If I were in your shoes , I would just tell them to leave you alone ...
If it continues I would tell the teacher that the butterfly means something really important to you && you can't help but draw it && that you have asked the kids to stop but they won't .

Heyas
Well doen for starting the butterfly project :3
But have you thought of drawing the butterfly somewhere that isn't obvious?
I drew them on my ankles for a while as my mum hates me drawing on myself and teachers hate it. So it may be an easy way to do the project and you can still do it.

Hi!
I'm glad you started the Butterfly Project.
It's a great start!
Like the above poster said, you should probably put them in unobvious places.
But hey it's better them seeing you drawing on yourself than the scars, right?

drawing it in less obvious places is the more obvious thing to do... but, i don't know, I guess I feel comforted when I see the butterfly, and i draw on myself to distract myself from the longing to cut

Hey there,
you are doing great! Don't stop the project because of their comments because it sounds like this is working for you. You can try making it in less obvious places, but don't stop the project. Stay strong <3

Congratulations for starting the Butterfly Project. It is a good step towards stopping SI'ing, and will help towards fighting the urges to SI. Hiding the drawing on less obvious parts of your body will help. You may relapse, you may not, but keep trying. Just the fact that you want to stop is a big step in the right direction!

You can also try this website. It has some good ideas on it. http://www.adolescentselfinjuryfoundation.com/page11

Stay strong.

If you don't want to draw in less obvious places, maybe you could use less obvious colors? Like maybe use a marker more similar to your skin color, like yellow/brown/black (I don't know what color your skin is)? That way you can still see it, but maybe it won't be so obvious if other people don't look so close?
