Hi, and welcome to TeenHelp!!

It is understandable that you aren't sure what to say in this situation. Unfortunately, it's just something we need to cope with. Your options are as follows:

1) "Oh it's nothing." This is what you're doing at the moment, and in all honesty it's fine. But you're right - it can make them suspicious.

2) The truth. Whilst this might be hard, very hard, it might be beneficial to tell them (if you're close enough to them) because chances are they'll guess anyway.

3) "It's none of your business." Again, will make them suspicious, but it's true. It's none of their business at all, and you've every right not to tell them

4) Ignore them. Just blank them, and refuse to answer. Hopefully they'll get the hint.

5) "I was mauled by a polar bear." Self explanatory.

Seriously though, I'd do whatever you're comfortable with. You can make up an excuse, but "My cat scratched me" is a little overdone. However, like I said, chances are they will guess whatever excuse you give them. It's important not to get defensive or angry though. They have a right to ask, but remember you have the right to remain silent

Take care <3
