Is that normal? - January 24th 2012, 03:05 AM

I SH a lot and I don't just do it by cutting my wrists or other bits of skin. When I'm really depressed I love the pain I can cause for myself, any kind of pain. I can sit there and peirce any part of me and take my time doing it just so I can feel the needle go through my skin, I tattoo myself so the pain is prolonged for a long time, I purposly get into fights so I can feel pain and I hit walls till I'm bleeding and need a doctor.
Is it normal for someone to feel like that about pain? Is it normal for someone to put themselves through that much pain and still feel like it's not enough, like I need to feel pain till I just can't feel anymore?
I just don't know what to do, I try talking to professionals and they just don't seem to understand, neither do the people around me, I feel like I'm fighting a war by myself and it's getting harder every day

It's not normal in the sense that it's healthy.
But it's normal in that it is common. You're definitely not the only one.
Unfortunately I don't really have any advice on what you can do... I'd say just keep seeking out professionals. Eventually you'll find one that can help you.

Hey Cynthia
I know how hard it can be to not have anyone who understands. I face a similar situation. People may care but its really hard to make them understand. When life seems hard remember that you're not alone. We are all here for you and we understand you. We're all in this together <3 I hope you have tried out some alternatives from this list. You'll have to try them one by one to find one that works for you.
If you need to talk feel free to PM/VM me
Stay strong <3

Its easier said that done BUT most of the great things wouldn't have ever been done if they hadn't been said first.

honestly, i know how you feel. sometimes i drag thumbtacks across my skin just to feel more pain than razors. fortunately they leave smaller scars, so that's what i do.

We...are not alone. Not until we choose to be. Choose your fate. Defy life and become your own. Don't conform.

Its great to hear that you are willing to get help and are looking for people to talk to. Thats a great step towards stopping. But yeah, feeling like you need pain like that isn't healthy=( Im very sorry you feel that way=( I would say whenever you DO feel that way, try your best to distract yourself and not let your mind go to cutting. Do anything you can to make sure that doesn't happen. My best way of not harming myself is to talk to people, just vent to them. It helps a lot. Im here if you ever wanna talk=)
