how do you get rid of scars? - January 25th 2012, 12:53 AM

hello, i'm new here. When I was 11 I had serious depression and I use to self harm alot, I have scars all on my arms, I use to do this for 6 months.

I went into counseling and I Haven't cut since then and I haven't had an urge to cut in 7 years. but at the end of the school year, when I graduate highschool i'm going to be enlisting into the military and i'm a bit nervous that my scars will disqualify me from joining the armed services, what is the fastest way to get them to go away?

Scars don't really go away - but you can make them heal and fade faster.

The best and cost efficient way is to buy cream, ointments, or gels. I'm sure you can get them from a local store.

Like Chris said they don't really go away. They DO fade over time/become less noticeable but unfortunately many of them will never fully disappear. I have several from many years ago (and a couple as recent as two years ago) and the one that are older are much less noticeable. I have had a few people ask me about them and I just tell them "It's nothing" and most of them drop it quickly. It's NONE of their business anyway! If it's someone I'm closer with I tell them it was something I struggled with when I was younger and answer any questions I feel comfortable answering. There are some creams that can help to make scars less visible. I used Mederma and found it to be pretty good. Anything with Vitamin E helps.

A few weeks and you begin to notice a difference. The longer you use it, the better it is but it only makes them fade the more of a "whitish" color that's less noticeable.

I can't post a link because I have too few posts but if you google "mederma" it will bring you to their website where you can get a better idea of its effects. I am not sure exactly how long it took for my scars to become less noticeable on their own but I know the ones I have from 4+ years ago are much less noticeable then ones that are more recent so time DOES help. The thing about mederma is that it's better if you use it on more recent scars, it doesn't work as well on older ones

Honestly tho I have a few that are still quite noticeable even after a couple of years but people rarely mention them. And if someone does so in a rude way THEY should be ashamed. Anyone with tact or who was raised right knows better then to mention something so sensitive.

Also I am not sure if you're a guy or a girl but my more noticeable scars are on my upper thighs and are only noticeable when I wear a bathing suite. When I do I put cover up on them, which makes them less noticeable. Perhaps you could consider that? But honestly you shouldn't be ashamed of your scars. You obviously have been through and survived some really difficult times in your life. If people can't recognize that it's on them and not you

I use a cream called "scarzone". Its been making my pink scars fade, slowly but surely. It was $15.

Oh that's simple I asked my doctor about the cut on the leg I had from sh. She said u can get mederma but what really works a lot faster is to get s plain bottle of vitamin e oil from a grocery store. I started to c my scar change some color with a few trys but I like my scfar so I'm keeping it.
