I want to cut. Help! - January 28th 2012, 11:40 PM

I count my calories, and today I ate too much. I'm trying to repeat my counselors words to myself, that calorie counting is going to have its good days and its bad days. But i wanna cut. Help. What should I do? Right now, all I'm doing is trying to repeat things to myself that my counselor has said to me.

Hey Cassidy.

The best thing you can do right now is to distract yourself. Do you have any distraction techniques you tend to use when you feel like you want to hurt yourself? It sounds like your counsellor's words, are helping, so maybe you could try writing them down and sticking them up somewhere, or just repeating them to yourself like a mantra (as you're doing), perhaps at the same time concentrating on your breathing until you feel calmer? Just a thought.

I see you're online now, so you could even try going into the Chat Room and talking to people (either about what's bothering you, so you can work through your feelings, or about general topics to take your mind off it). Remember, above all, that you are worth more than this, and you can beat it.

Hi!

Like Chess said, it is good to find something that distracts you. Have you looked at any of the alternatives listed here? There are so many there that something is definitely bound to listen to you. I also agree that talking can sometimes be a great distraction. I find that it is harder to self harm while talking with someone, and depending on how much you trust a person, sometimes they are great to vent to. You don't have to keep it all inside. Or, write it out, whether it is in the form of a poem, a diary, or something else. That way you can get out your emotions and later on you can look to see what might have triggered you.

Something that's helped me calm down (with SH urges and anxiety) is to count your breathing.
Inhale.
1.. 2.. 3.. 4..
Exhale.
1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 7.. 8..
Repeat. It helps to keep your mind off stuff, because you're focusing on your breathing.
