You just have to be calm and tell them, be honest. It might seem scary at first but when I told my parents I self harm they were understanding.

Hey,
First off congrats on one year self harm free!! That is really awesome and a huge accomplishment you should be very proud of. ![]() I think this is great, you wanting to tell them. You can either sit down and have a talk with them both or you can write them a letter explaining that you used to hurt yourself. They may be concerned and worried at first but explaining things to them should help in getting them to understand and be able to help you. It is really scary to take that step and tell your parents about your self harm but in the long run, them knowing and being support for you is really the best option. I hope this helps and you can message me if you ever need to. "When my life is like a storm

One year of not self injuring is a big accomplishment. Is there a specific reason that your girlfriend is so adament that she wants you to tell your parents? It can be a scary thing to think about telling your parents especially since it sounds as if it is not entirely of your choosing. That being said, it may help to tell them as you will no longer feel that you have to keep it a secret.
Basically, be honest about it. When talking to them about it, be clear that you haven't self injured in a while, and be prepared for questions. It may be difficult for them to understand at first, and their instincts will tell them to take a more reactionary approach instead of thinking about what you are telling them. I hope that made sense. Please feel free to PM me if you have a need. "To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And eternity in an hour." William Blake - Auguries of Innocence |

First of all, one year without self harm is really great. You should be so proud of that.
I agree that honesty is the best way to go about this. They'll wonder why you are doing this, so being honest and planning out what you say may help. Writing it in a letter may also help you if you are nervous to say it out loud. That way, you have made sure that everything you want to get through is written down so you don't forget anything, and have time to review to get your point across. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Celebration
Everyday is a celebration because instead of waiting for happy endings, we open our eyes to the wonder of life, to see the humour and magic in each moment. Delighted in the way things turn out, amazed at the beauty of it all. |
