New here...and scared.. - February 3rd 2012, 03:26 AM

I've been looking through everyone's posts and the replies, and now I'm basically just sitting here and crying..
Why can't I have someone like that at my school..someone who can realize that there is something wrong instead of pointing out stupid shit like, "why are you so depressed?" or "life can't be that bad, cheer up"
uhm yeah..i wish i fucking could just "cheer up"
it's hard...
i've been a cutter since i was in 6th grade. i'm in 12th now. and still cutting.
i've never told anyone this. and i think it's time i get help...

so..

First of all, I would like to say welcome to TeenHelp! I know we've never spoken, but I am still so proud of you for opening up to us in this forum. Unfortunately, a lot of us don't have people in our personal lives to open up to - that's what has brought us here. I would love it if you would check out this thread. It has many alternatives to self harm that might help you to find new ways to relieve your stress. Don't be discouraged if you don't find the perfect alternative right away. Sometimes, it takes time. Also, I would like to provide you with this thread, which is a place for you to post the amount of time you have been SH free, so other users can encourage you. Shoot me a message if you ever need to talk. I'd love to hear your story.

Hey,

I understand where you're coming from, when I was in high school people thought the same exact thing about me. It hurt, because I knew how big of a problem it was and nobody would take me seriously. Have you ever tried to talk to somebody about how serious it is and stuff though? Like a teacher, school counselor or even a parent? Getting help with this is such a good idea! It gets better! I know that it might not feel like it but it does! If you ever want to talk, feel free to send me a private message!

all i want is a place to call my own and
mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone,
woah,
you know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.

Me too. I wish I had someone who could actually understand when I tell them how much I hate my life, rather than trying to "cheer me up" by reminding me how many things I have to be HAPPY about.

i always try to get people to laugh. yesterday i ninja jump failed through a door. i don't care if they're sad and i'm annoying. i just try to give them a little bit of happiness to hold onto like a lifeline. because, i'm a big joker, and when i was down, my love interest/friend seth goofed around and helped me onto my feet again. he's the reason i stopped cutting. he gave life to my dying soul. so, sometimes people need a shoulder for crying(sometimes literally), and sometimes they need understanding, and they always need joy and laughter, whether they know it or not.

But at least you're not taking it for granted.

Honestly? I SH'ed from 6th grade until my 12th year too. Nobody noticed, or cared enough to notice. Not even my best friends. But that didn't stop me from getting better eventually. Congrats for admitting you want to get help. That's really one of the hardest parts. I promise. You just have to find something that motivates you or keeps you occupied and stick with it.. Because your health is more important than anything, and SH is not healthy at all. You don't have to cheer up for anyone but yourself. I've been clean for a decent amount of time now, and I'll admit that it's still a struggle. I still have to tell myself to cheer up, even when I can't.. but I'm not SHing.. I don't because I want to be a better person for myself. Maybe you have someone that you'd like to quit for, or maybe it's just for you.. But don't let that motivation go. Don't let it fade away.

Let yourself smile from time to time, and just try to enjoy life for what it is. It's too precious to waste. It's too beautiful at times to risk. And if you need anything, we're all here for you. Don't be afraid to PM me or someone else when you feel lost or down.
