You told me once I made you smile
But we both know damn well I didn't
I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you

Hiya, Beth. [:

You know, I can't speak from personal experience here because I've never self harmed nor had an urge to self harm. However, I have read many, many threads on these forums. I think that what you're feeling is what sometimes 'causes people to "slip up" - if no one ever got urges after not having them for awhile, no one would ever slip up. And well, people do slip up. I think it's just part of recovery for some.

I can imagine it's frustrating, but try to distract yourself when you start getting urges. There's a really awesome list of self harm alternatives at the top of this forum here separated into various sections, such as things you may want to do when you're feeling lonely, bizarre things, or things that take up time. Check it out if you get the chance. Take care, and I know you can push through these urges!

Hey I know how you feel. It happens to me all the time, Its really annoying isent it.

But we can learn to deal with the urges and do things to distract us when those urges come about. Check out the link Katrina gave you theres some good ideas on there.

I understand how frusterating it is. It's been a little over 2 years that I've cut but every once in a while I get an urge back. You would think that after that long it wouldn't matter but it still does.

Try to distract yourself with other things or figure out if there is a reason you are having the urges. Sometimes there not as random as we think. Stay safe.

Heya Beth.

Was there anything to trigger those urges? A conversation, a memory, something on TV etc? Because that could be a reason why the urges came back all of a sudden.

If not, it's normal for them to just appear, once it gets into your head it's very hard for it to leave so it likes to remind you every now and again what you're missing. You just have to fight those urges as best as you can..

Hey Beth. :]

First of all, remember that urges are just that. Urges. They're there to be fought and I know you can fight them. They are horrible and frustrating, I know. But they can be beaten!

Random urges are perfectly normal. You may have seen something on TV, or someone said something on the street and you overheard, you may not have realized at the time but these could have triggered you.

Also, since Self Harm can become such a big part of someone's life, it's odd not having it anymore and sometimes you might find yourself reaching out for it. But just remember that you don't need it.

The best thing to do is to find alternatives to keep you busy until the urge passes. Katrina gave you the link to our awesome Alternatives thread. I'd suggest having at look at it, and trying to find something that works for you. Not everything will, but you're bound to find one or two things that help you fight those urges.

Stay strong and PM me anytime you need to talk.

Take care of yourself.
