Question The butterfly project isn't working? - February 29th 2012, 03:11 AM

I've been trying to use the butterfly project, but when I get the urge to SH it's like my body deosn't register that they are there, and ignores them, then I SH. Then afterward I realize I just killed my butterfly, and it makes me mad, and I vigorously scrub it off.... :/
Help, anyone?

I love you.... I wish you'd love me too...

Hello there,
Like every alternative to SH it only works for some. If the butterfly project doesnt work for you then try another alternative.
Look at this sticky:http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/
It has a good sized list of alternatives take a look at them at and try as many as it takes to take up time so the urges pass. I hope this helped

From day one I talked about getting out
But not forgetting about
How all my worst fears are letting out
He said, "Why put a new address on the same old loneliness?"
When breathing just passes the time
Until we all just get old and die

If the butterfly project isn't working and is just aggravating you, you should probably call it quits. Dionna gave you the link to the alternatives thread, that's always a good place to start.
Good luck, and PM me any time if you need to.

Hi, first off, i'd like to say CONGRATULATIONS FOR TRYING TO STOP SELF HARM, it will be the best and most rewarding thing you will ever dio, it might also be one of the hardest. I know, i'm stopping too but occasionally i laspe and it makes me feel so stupid and selfish but it's possible and together with others out there we will do it. have you heard of this? http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...-what-try-now/ it's similar to the butterfly project but it might help you more. Basicly it gives you a sort of in your face reason not to self hamr , besides the obvious you dont deserve it thing - which i know doesnt personally kick in for me- so anyway, you cut out snowflakes when you feel like selfharming and whever you do selfharm you have to bin everything, this might help you because you wont want to throw away all your hard work right? i hope it will help you, it's jsut one suggestion. If that doesn't work, you could try calling a friend when you feel like self harming/ try the online chat on childline - they have counsellors there 24/7 so don't be afraid to chat to them if you need a destraction, you could try just distracting yourselrf and rewarding yourself for not ding it every 5 minutes or so/ try squeezing an icecube if you need a sensation without actually hurting youserlf. good luck i know you cna do this <3 pm me if you need to talk xxxx

Change the voices in your head,
make them like you instead

Hey there,
As the others have said, not all the alternatives will work for you, I would suggest taking another look at the list and trying some different ones. You will eventually find one that works for you.
If you still want to use the butterfly project I would suggest naming the butterfly after a loved one or getting someone you love to draw the butterfly on you, that way it may help you to remember and not cut.

If you ever want/need to talk, feel free to PM me,
Take care,
