Question Just need help - March 17th 2012, 01:30 PM

Im new to this. I just signed up but I figure that any help is good help. I have been cutting for about a year and a half on and off. I have been getting really bad urges lately even though I am seeing a counselor. I would tell her but she will have to tell my parents. I am only 14 years old. I got to sleep with my razor in my hand and with at least one new cut on my leg every night. But the urges don't go away all through the day. I know I need to stop but I don't want to. I hurt my self because it makes me feel alive because of the blood . Any suggestions?? At all? And I have also unfortunately taken on drinking and have been doing drugs(perscription pills and non prescription pills and marijuana) for about 4 months. Help?

Hi Bre Welcome to the site! I'm sorry you're going through such a hard time at the moment, but you're right, any help is good help
With that said though, whilst I know you don't want to see a counselor, because your parents will find out, I still have to recommend it. Why is it you don't want them to know? Because of their reaction? Chances are they'll find out anyway, and then they'll be even more upset because you felt like you had to keep it from them. They'd rather see you happy
Have you told any of your friends about your habits? Sometimes it's good to just talk to someone (or, there's this site for that >:-3)
Also, to help you stop self harming, there's this thread. It lists alternatives to self harm, which you could perhaps try next time you feel the urge to cut. I know it's hard, but it's possible to stop Don't be discouraged if the first few alternatives don't work - it may take some time to find one that works for you.
I hope things get better for you soon, I'm here if you ever need to chat

Hey there.

Welcome to TH. Like the above poster said. I know that you really don't want your parents to know. However maybe they know a way that they can help you. The problem with Self harming is it's an addictive cycle. When asking someone to stop it's almost the same as asking an alcoholic to give up there alcohol. When we are there are what is called endorphin's that are released in our brain. They make the body feel good. So of course naturally we want to do it over and over again. It's important to remember thought, that if you can make yourself not triggered anymore then it is going to be easier. This is because thoughts can be changed, triggers can't, but they can be distracted. I really suggest you check out the link that Kate gave you.

I hope that everything works out for you. If you need anything else let us know.
