I can't do it... - April 9th 2012, 04:05 AM

Tomorrow is the day that I was going to tell my teacher about my self harm and my suicidal thoughts. I don't think I can do it. I got so scared just thinking about it and just other emotions that I started to cut again. Like I have my letter almost completed but I am just scared for her to see it and everything. I don't think I can do it anymore.

Hey there,

I'm sorry to see that you are going through such a rough time. It is a really great first step that you have recognized that you have a problem and want to get some help for it. It is also wonderful that you have a teacher that you trust enough to tell them about what is going on. I'm glad that you have people like that in your life!

One thing that you have to remember is that your teacher will be on your side. She will do what she has to do to make sure that you are safe and get the help that you need. She became a teacher because she cares about people and wants to see them succeed, and you are no exception to this. In fact, it can be a VERY wonderful thing to know that you have someone to talk to when you need it. Remember that before you decide not to tell her.

It is also a very good idea that you have decided to tell her in the form of a letter. If you want, you don't even have to hand deliver it to her. You can nonchalantly drop it on her desk as you enter or leave her classroom, putting her name somewhere on it in a way that it will catch her eye. Or, if she has a mailbox, you can always have it put in there so when she checks her mail she can read it and get back to you. If you have a friend that you would trust with it, you can even have them give her the letter.

Remember, while your teacher will do what she has to do with the letter, this is for your own good. She will not be angry with you. She may be concerned, but she certainly won't yell at you, and she will be proud of you for being able to tell her. That is what YOU should feel, too, not only with whether or not you give her the letter, but by the fact that you DO want to make a change. Giving her the letter would be the first step in the right direction. I know it may not be easy, but sometimes you have to just push past all your doubts and know that even though it may be hard now, this WILL get better if you want it to. I can tell that you do want to, and because of that, you should give her the letter. It is a really good option for getting help. It can be scary, but imagine how much better it will be in the end when you can finally break free of this cycle.

I hope this has helped you some. If not, you can always write back. We're always here for you!
