Applying for DLA - May 23rd 2012, 03:26 PM

So due to anxiety and depression i've decided to take my final year of uni part-time over 2 years.

However this leaves me financially screwed.

So, i was suggested by support services to apply for DLA.

I'm really nervous about it, and also feel that i have little chance of getting anything.

Any tips/advice?

Hi, sorry I can't be of much help but I just wanted to say I support you and im sure that you will get some sort of assistance from your country's disability program. I was told to apply for our disability program too (AISH here) but never got the nerve to do it so I would be interested in hearing how things pan out.
Keep me updated!

I don't know if they will give you DLA for those but you can receive income support such as Job seekers allowance, and there's one that you can get for being off work sick (this covers depression and anxiety) DLA is very hard to apply for - I tried to apply for it for ADHD and they said no due to me being able to function properly and not needing anyone to feed me, and dress me and bathe me.

You won't be left without any income, there are benefits that you can receive. Job seekers allowance being one of them, and there will be other benefits you can receive to I do believe. Maybe pop along to your local job center and explain your situation and they will help advise you on the sort of benefits you can receive the job seeker allowance is roughly 50 every two weeks.
