Terrets are not funny

All my life I was teased with having Terrets. I never understood what was so funny about it, it wasn't cussing like most think of when they hear the word Terrets. When I am emotionally stressed they start, and when people notice them they get worse. When everyone looks and laughs I end up in danger.

One day I went to school and in history class during a girls project I started ticking (making small sounds) she asked me to stop..which I couldn't. I ran out of the class while they laughed including the teachers..the joke turned into a mess.

I sat in a chair next door with my hoody over my head feeling very tired. Then everything went black. I felt my spine jump an shocking all over my body. I couldn't breath very well and was gasping for air. The teachers ended up having to take me out by picking me up and to my grandparents, who were livid at the kids and teachers. They didn't know what was wrong with me except I was out completely. I didn't feel like eating at all when I came to and when I did I blacked out again.

The school declared that I not go to school for a week,to go to a doctor and get rest while they talked to the students. The teacher almost ended up getting fired and the student felt like crap. After that I didn't speak to anyone. When a kid would come to say sorry to me I would say nothing and walk away.

So those who think Terrets is a game and funny, its not. In fact, its dangerous and not to be played with.

Now I have control over Terrets and take a mild medication when needed before they start to give me more control over them. So those who have Terrets keep your head high because you can overcome them.

I am glad to hear that you have overcome them for the most part. I know how horrible it can be when someone laughs at you. I am blind and I get alot of teassing. I just wanted you to know that I feel for you.

YeaH, your toatally right, terrets and twitching habits ARE NOT FUNNY. i dont have terrets, but i have TERRIBLE TWITCHING PROBLEMS, i hurt all over everyday cuz im always jerking and then i get tired from it but cant stop, its gotten so bad that i probley have every single jerking problem you cud find. i always get asked why im twitching and get stares at times in the school and people laugh at me, i kinda laugh too but i wish i just didnt get that kind of attention from people! it gets worse when im stressed out, then it gets really bad. it sucks and its so hard to do things, its hard to sing, talk, make people laugh like i always did, dance, write, sit down, it controls my life. it makes me wanna cry as i write this becuz i wish i just didnt have it! ):
i even get bruises on my arms from doing it and y teacher thought it was me self harming and wouldnt believe me! i wanna cry becuz its basickly a dissability for me,
i just wish i didnt have to live with it,
ive bene having this problem for like 7 and a half months now.
and when i try to stop then its hard to walk and do things cuz im not used to it, ive went to the doctor for it but she just said to ignore them. i cant really do that.

No one with any kind of disability should be made fun of. No one should be made fun of period, no matter the reason. I'm really sorry you had such a negative experience, but I'm glad you still hold tight to your confidence and have been able to pull yourself through this :] It's great that you've improved, it must have taken a lot of strength. I can't agree more with what you wrote in your post.
