Bell's Palsy -
March 17th 2010, 03:25 PM
Hey so I wasn't sure whether or not to post in here or general health, but I figured here was better.
Because of my cutting, I got a virus and it caused a thing called bell's palsy. Basically I can't move the left side of my face. My left eye doesn't close very well, and won't close all the way (yes, my eye is on fire. it burns). I can't smile, and I can't pronounce the letters P, B, F, TH, and I have a lisp that i never had before. I can't sing properly. I can't even wash my face without getting water in my eye because it won't close. Has anyone ever had to deal with this? Or something similar? It might never go away. If it does it'll be at least a few months. I know of people who had to live with it for like 9 or 10 months before it went away. Sounds tough Jennifer, I hope you're able to stay strong through all this.
I've never known anybody with that problem, but I thought I'd say that I know there are eye drops you can get for your eye that won't close all the way to provide some relief. I can't really think of anything either than that and wait it out, hope for the best, and remember that you can only become a better person through all this. |

Hey Jennifer,
I actually have this right now too, but mine is caused by Mono, I think xD. It will eventually go away, I know they have me on medication and on something for the pain, so if you haven't seen your doctor, you might want to. Also, put a warm wash cloth on that side of your face, it will help relax the muscles. Just hang in there, we can beat this

Thanks cas.
My dad rushed me to the hospital when I noticed it because we thought I might be having a stroke. I'm on an anti viral medication and a steroid. I'm not in too much pain. The only thing that hurts is my eye. And I'm just really upset because smiling and laughing are like 2 of my favourite things. I can't do either lol Jen Live Help Operator I have made a recent lifestyle change And decided to take the second "n" out of my name. Thought I'd keep my friends and family on their toes. ![]() |

That's probably one of the most amazing and scariest things I have ever heard of. I have an issue with cutting and never thought of something like this happening from an infection from cutting. So it's scary but it's still amazing 1) how that happens (i'm very into science) and 2) how you're getting through it. Keep positive. Even though you can't smile or laugh you can still keep a positive outlook on life and everything in it. =]

Hey, I know my Step-sister had issues with one side of her body, like what you described. She went to Occupational therapy and speech therapy to fix it. After a couple sessions, she is almost back to her normal self. Could you try something like that? If not I agree with what has been said above, use something warm on your face to calm and relax all muscles, ice could also help. Hope you feel better soon. <3
