I'm not an expert on this, but if you are really concerned, I would ask your mom to take you to the doctor and see if the doctor agrees. This can at least give you peace of mind, and they might be able to help, with medication of some sort, or maybe some other treatment. I know that I'm not an expert, but I hope this helps.

Hey Colin,
The thing with disabilities is that people find it impossible to understand what you are going through because they have never been in your situation themselves. It would seem that there is very little publicity or information about the syndrome, which only makes it harder for people do build up understanding, and support you further in dealing with your difficulties. I'm sorry that your parents don't understand, as you say, you're not doing it for attention. Admittedly, Tourettes syndrome must be very difficult to live with. Trying to keep yourself active, whether through sports or other activities is said to help remove your focus from the tics and onto something more constructive. Try keeping something in your hands like a stress ball to play with when you feel the tics coming on. Whether or not you get diagnosed with Tourettes this sounds like a very difficult thing for you to deal with. The doctor will hopefully be able to give you an idea of a diagnosis and different methods of handling the tics. Feel free to PM me if you need anything. Take care. Marie. |
