What's wrong with him? -
May 16th 2010, 03:36 PM
My mom started dating this guy around six months ago, and now she is pregnant. He's really nice to me and my mom. The only problem is, his son is crazy! My mom thinks it's autism, or something like that, but his parents refuse to get him any help, like a therapist. He's socially retarded (he has no idea when someone is joking), he has the personality of a six year old, and he's thirteen. I'm really scared for him, especially because he's starting to act out violently for no reason at all. I heard that in 3rd grade, when he was getting bullied a lot, he acted out by going under his desk, and barking like a dog. Does anyone know if these are symptoms of something? My mom and I would REALLY apreciate it. Thanks!

Hey there. (:
We can't diagnose conditions here on TeenHelp. We're not professionals. Remember that the only way to get an official diagnosis is to see a doctor. Having a disability doesn't make him crazy, I know it must be frustrating not knowing why he is acting the way he does. You say you think it could be autism? Autism is usually diagnosed by the age of three, Aspergers, however, can be diagnosed much later on, usually by the age of six. People with autistic disorder may have trouble looking at you when they talk, or they may say nothing because they do not know what to say. They may find it difficult to concentrate on a task, and get upset when asked to finish a task. People with autistic disorder usually have delayed speech and understanding of language, social difficulties, and unusual behaviours and interests. Asperger syndrome is milder than autistic disorder. People with aspergers usually have similar traits to people with autistic disorder, however they don't usually have difficulties with communication. Some of the common symptoms are;
I hope this helps. You're welcome to PM me any time. (: Take care. |

Sounds like either Autism or a very severe case of Aspergers. If his speech is reasonable enough, it might be severe Aspergers. Either way his parents should really should get it checked into, or at least diagnosed .

There could be many reasons for his behaviour... it doesn't automatically mean autism, or aspergers...
I guess you should try convince your mom and her boyfriend that maybe it's just worth seeing a doctor/psychologist or someone... I guess you could also search some symptoms of different types of autism... or even get him to take a "online screening" for autism, which you can find just by searching it in google (: good luck x |

I knew a guy like this. He used to purposely drink ink from pens and pretend he was a dinosaur. He's grown up and become very socially intelligent now. I know this doesn't help much...
