Is it really a disability?

I was a little surprised today. When I went in for a round of treatment today, a nurse said to me, "I will always be here to help you cope with your disability." I'm currently suffering from ALL- acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I never really thought of my cancer being classified as a "disability." I like to think of it as something that's going to make me stronger and has a way of telling me to slow down from my active lifestyle. But is it really a disability?

I wouldn't think of it as a disability, even though it can limit some things you can do. I'd just call it an illness.

That's what I was thinking. I never considered it to be a disability so I was kind of put down by the nurse.

technically i guess it is seen as a disability seeing as most cancer patients receive or are entitled to receive DLA.

I dont think she meant it in a rude way, or to put you down. I think she means that right now that is affecting your life in a dramatic way. If you think about it, it kind of is like a temporary one, but its one that can make you grow stronger and better. I think she just meant it as I'm here for you while youre struggling with this.
