Are You Colour Blind? - November 28th 2010, 11:43 AM

I was chatting with a friend over MSN and this came up. We were talking about some of the Halo 2 multiplayer slayer mode games where in some rooms, I don't see where they are because of the colours of the room and their character.

I'm aware I'm colour blind (deuteranopia with some protanomaly and photophobia), already saw an eye doctor for it so this is just a poll to see if you on TH are, and if so, what type. For me, it means blues I see the best but It's not a true diagnostic test and there can be variability with individual monitors so keep that in mind. There are 2 tests, both are very very simple.

Here is a link to the common ones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichromacy Use this for the other 2 tests below.

1) http://www.univie.ac.at/Vergl-Physio...rtestF-en.html
For this, you arrange little chip colours so they go from blue to red. Don't worry if you screw up massively on this, I did.

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWyrp3hu4KE
This is an Ishiraha colour plate test, where each plate has a number and various colours. Since it's YouTube, there's no formal chart to look at your findings.

To know which you have, this website gives a simple definition and to those not colour blind or unsure if you have that given type, click on the button that says "Colour" so it shows an example. http://directorylasik.com/articles/u...blindness.html

Re: Are You Colour Blind? - November 28th 2010, 01:30 PM

im not colour blind mostly due to the fact that i am female, i once remember reading something at school in a lesson about colour blindness and it said that ' colour blindness only appears in boys as females cannot be colour blind' i dont know how much truth there is in that but it also said something about a gene that boys have that makes them more prone to being colourblind and females dont have that gene meaning that females cannot be colourblind. i read it at school ages ago but thats what it said in the book.

BROKE
the girl who seemed strong
CRUMBLED
the girl who always laughed
CRIED
the girl who never stopped trying finally
GAVE UP

she let her fake smile fade and as she did a tear rolled down her cheek and she whispered

' i can't do this anymore'

Females actually can be color blind, but it is much more common in males. Here is a cool article that discusses color blindness in women.

I am not color blind.

I got this on the first test, they're quite near to normal sight so I think I'm healthy D=
Score:
angle: 61.98
major radius: 8.85
minor radius: 7.21
total error: 11.42
s-index: 1.23

This being said, the only colours I acknowledge (am I'm male) are red, blue, yellow, purple, green, orange, brown, pink and the two shades. These are the only one's that exist D=

Re: Are You Colour Blind? - November 28th 2010, 09:28 PM

I'll explain how the first link works. When you get your score, you can ignore the major and minor radii. The things to note are the C-index measures the confusion because normal colour vision is around 1 while most colour blindness is high 1 to 4, and beyond 4 is severe. S-index measures the severity because anything below 2 is normal, from 2-4 is colour blindness and beyond 4 is severe. TES is total error score, 11 is normal and the closer it is to 40 or above indicates colour blindness. The angle is used if the above things are in the abnormal range to suggest the type of colour blindness. Major and minor radii are used to give the S-index, so you just need to measure the S-index.

Here's a table explaining the values for each colour blindness disorder. Main thing to look at is the angle. http://www.colour-blindness.com/colour-blindness-tests/ I should've posted this in the first post, my apologies.

It means there is some difficulty in your colour vision but probably not enough to be any of the disorders listed.

Don't worry for the second test, if it makes you feel better, I got almost all them wrong as I saw either part of the image or just a bunch of dots.

According to this, your colour vision is completely normal, nearly perfect actually.

nope I'm not colorblind my dad said he was, though.

Looks the same as a few people here.
For the angle, It's supposed to be 62 to be perfect. Does that mean I missed something?

Wow, the exact same as .Brittany.'s scores.

I'm not sure if you missed something but it seems like it's perfect anyway. It may be a timed test, so depending how long you took, it may take away 0.02 from the angle.

Based off the first test:

Score:
angle: 61.98
major radius: 8.85
minor radius: 7.21
total error: 11.42
s-index: 1.23

I'm definitely not colored blind; my numbers are really close to the "normal" table.

I did have a step-grandfather who was colorblind. He died when I was nine, though.

Yes, it is more common in males, although certain types of colour blindness are very rare in both, such as monochromacy, where it's black, white and gray only.

It means your colour vision is pretty much normal.

Not really because remember, it's on the monitor so there can be issues with that. Also, for the real colour-blindness tests (have had them done by eye doctors), it's a lot more and more comprehensive, where there are slides that you see numbers only if you have a certain colour blindness. So probably not.

If you want to compare with my results for the youtube test, which are pretty shitty: I got the first slide right, second wrong, third wrong, fourth I saw an o which was part of the 3, 5th I didn't see any number, 6th I didn't see anything, 7th I didn't see anything, 8th I got wrong, 9th I got the 2nd number wrong, 10th I got wrong, 11th I didn't see anything. When I say I got it wrong, I mean I saw a number or part of a number but not what was there. When I say I didn't see anything, it was just a bunch of dots not forming any image whatsoever.

So it's doubtful you have colour-blindness but then again, I have more than one colour blindness disorder along with other vision problems, so my results are nearly the same as people who see only black-and-white.

I'm not color blind in the traditional sense, but I've been diagnosed with color differentiation diffiulty, which means that I sometimes mistake dark colors like navy blue, brown and black. Unless they're next to each other they look about the same to me.

That test that was linked above, which required me to arrange the dots from blue to red... Well, I couldn't even finish that.

It's no surprise. I know my perception of colour is a bit out of whack. Funny, considering how into the arts I am.

Meh, it's yet to kill me, so I guess I won't really be concerned

My results for my test were:
Angle: 53.21
Major radius: 19.85
Minor radius: 16.2
Total error: 25.62
S-Index: 1.22
C-Index: 2.15
What does this mean?

Lol, I'm in the same boat as you are for the first test. I gave up around half way or a bit before that as it looked all the same so just put it in whatever order.

Which form of colour blindness do you have?

Err, the colour one?

Yeah, the blue => green went alright but after that I couldn't figure out which was meant to come next.

My score for the first test:

Score:
angle: -59.8
major radius: 18.04
minor radius: 13.13
total error: 22.31
s-index: 1.37
c-index: 1.95

For the second test, I missed a couple.

As for whether or not I'm color blind, I have no clue haha.

Looking at the chart, a few of these answers are pointing towards the Protanomal category. Obviously this isn't a clinical test though :P

As for my score I got

Score:
angle: 61.98
major radius: 8.85
minor radius: 7.21
total error: 11.42
s-index: 1.23
c-index: 0.96

which seems to be the same as quite a few. Yay for not being colourblind

Test indicates there may be some colour vision impairment but not one of the colour blindness forms.

As far as I know, I'm not colour blind.

Nothing in the world is
the way it ought to be.
It's harsh, and cruel.

But that's why there's us - champions.
Doesn't matter where we come from,
what we've done or suffered,
or even if we make a difference.

We live as though the
world is as it should be,
to show it what it can be.

Oh dear. :/ I think I'm partially color blind. Dammit.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Indeed, according to the test you would be.
