i think i've found the cause of my stutter! - April 5th 2011, 08:12 PM

i think i have found the cause of my stutter, it seems to be in social situations where theres more than one person talking at the same time and i find it hard to get my words out due to anxiety like just now at the table everyone was talking and i did talk but each time i did i stuttered nearly every time, i think i've found the cause of my stutter, just how do i stop it ?

the girl who always seemed unbreakble finally
BROKE
the girl who seemed strong
CRUMBLED
the girl who always laughed
CRIED
the girl who never stopped trying finally
GAVE UP

she let her fake smile fade and as she did a tear rolled down her cheek and she whispered

' i can't do this anymore'

When many people are talking at once try to tune some out and only listen to one person.

Have you tried going into speech therapy? That should be able to help you. Here are some helpful things that you can try. Think before you open your mouth. Calm yourself down, speak when the environment isn't busy. If you try to talk while others are talking, it might cause you to become anxious and freeze in your speech. This can cause you to stutter or stammer while you are trying to converse. Talk in front of mirrors. If it helps, practice reading books out loud. I can understand how embarrassing this is. Not being able to speak when around others. I really hope that you are able to overcome this.

Speech therapy really helped me with my stutter! The only time I ever stutter now is when I'm totally exhausted.. :P

Make it stop,
Let this end.

But proud I stand of who I am,
I plan to go on living.

Have you tried giving it another shot? For example, you might have taken piano lessons when you were younger, and failed, but that doesn't mean you will never learn how to play. You try at it again.

true. no i havent tried them agian, i sort of gave up, it does'nt happen all the time just in social situations where the conversation is confusing and more than one person is speaking, sometimes i does just happen and im left trying to get my words out, it also happens when i dont feel confident, like in a resturant or something my mum will order for me. i will try and order food myself but i often find myself sort of chokeing on my words. so mum just takes over for me.

Hopefully you will find your own way to deal with this. Your mother will not always be there. You will have to learn how to speak up, and get your voice across. Try not to be so nervous to talk to a group of people. Talk in front of mirrors. I hope this gets better for you.
