This may or may not help: You need to get help. They have 12 step programs that help people stop watching porn. Try to get into one of those. Until then, try to place your computer where everyone can see. Your less likely to watch porn in a place where everyone can see you. If you feel that you need to watch porn do something else that will take your mind off that.

Hey there,

Just like any addiction, getting away from porn is going to be a tricky thing to do. One thing that you might want to consider doing is putting your laptop in a place where people will be able to see your screen at all times. If you know that other people will be able to see what you're doing, it'll make you less likely to go on websites that you know would cause some sort of negative reaction. Eventually, the habit of going on those websites will start to break.

There are also websites out there that you can use to regulate your Internet access. These will allow you to input certain websites and topics that you do not want your computer to load. Some will also allow you to select a certain time, after which you will not be able to use your Internet. Of course, you'll have to pick a time that you want your Internet to turn back on, but this might be helpful at night when temptations tend to run higher. Finally, trash any porn that you have downloaded on your computer. Delete it, then empty the recycle bin to ensure that it is gone for good.

You can beat this! You just have to be willing to put in the effort. Remember, we're all here to support you on this journey, so don't be afraid to ask for more help if you need it.

Take care,
Sammi.

Re: Addicted to Porn - July 4th 2012, 05:56 PM

Hey there

Firstly, it's great that you've recognised that this is a problem for you. That's the first step in over coming an addiction. It's also great that you've reached out for support here. It might also be a good idea to reach out for support to someone like a counselor. There are programmes out there designed to help people beat addictions. Any counseling or therapy should be completely confidential, and if you have a look around your area, there may even be phone services available if you didn't feel ready to talk to someone face to face.

Like Sammi suggested, there is software you can get on your computer which can block certain sites, key words ect. These are usually aimed at keeping children safe, so will often block things like porn. If that idea interests you, take a look around the web, because there are some free ones out there.

If you live with other people, putting your computer somewhere where they can see it is a brilliant deterrent. Porn is something that most people wish to view in private, and if you deny yourself this option then you may start to break the habit. If that's not possible, you could also try to only use the computer at the library or in internet cafes, somewhere where other people are around and it's harder for you to watch porn.

If you have anything saved onto your computer or own any DVDs ect, try to get rid of them. Removing the material will make access to porn slightly harder and may also serve as a deterrent.

Try to distract yourself. Get busy, get a new hobby, fill up your time. If you are focusing on something else, it will be harder for you to think about porn all the time. Do things you enjoy, spend time with other people and get away from the computer for a bit each day.

Porn is something that, in small amounts, there is nothing wrong with. But, if it's taking over your life then it is clearly unhealthy and it might be a good idea to try and come clean from it completely, before thinking about whether or not it is something you want in your life.

Take care.

Re: Addicted to Porn - July 5th 2012, 09:25 AM

Admittingly,

This is also something that I faced and struggled with. But like everyone else has said I found it alot easier to control the urge to bring my laptop in an area where lotts of people are around. I also did install an online Web filter that would block all porn sites. I used K9 Web Protection, for the password I would close my eyes press random keys and copy it. (And paste them as my password). And of course deleting and then emptying your inbox after is another good step.

It'll be hard at first to resist the urge (when no one is around you) but like any addiction the best way to control the urge is to distract your mind, logg off and read a book or do something fun everytime the urge comes in. Or if you have access to a job try get a full time job; it really does destroy your free time as well as makes you too tired to even go on the computer!

You can do this!
