Champix/Chantix - March 17th 2013, 03:57 AM

Hey guys,

On Tuesday this coming week, I'll be heading into the doctors. I want to talk with him about getting my hands on Champix and trying to kick the habit. I've tried quitting numerous times; last year, I quit for two weeks at one stage, and a month at another stage. I've reverted back to smoking, and I've spent a hell of a lot of money on it (a packet of 30 cigarettes costs $20AUD, which equates to about $21USD). I smoke a packet a day at the moment, and it's really starting to annoy both my girlfriend and my friends.

I've just come here to ask if anyone has any success stories with Champix? Either you, or a friend, or a family member?

I had a friend recently quit cold turkey. It's been a month for him and he's never going back. I was so utterly jealous that I decided it was time for me to kick the habit too. I'm hoping this works, because clearly my attempts to quit haven't been all too successful.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Champix, but I wish you luck.
I wonder if identifying the psychological reasons behind your habit or addiction might help in the long-term, once the physical effects of withdrawal eventually fade.

Unfortunately, I don't have any first-hand experience with Champix. However, I think it's great that you want to quit smoking. Perhaps you could talk to your friend, since he has already managed to quit smoking. Ask him for some techniques that he used to avoid the temptation to go back. Also, think about asking him to hold you accountable. Quitting any addiction isn't an easy task, but it gets much more bearable when you have someone supporting you and helping you figure it out along the way. I know you can do this, Mitch! Good luck and take care.
