Biting the skin off my fingers - May 19th 2013, 03:04 AM

Whenever I'm bored, stressed, anxious, thinking- anything really- I bite the skin off of my fingers. Sometimes I don't even notice it until its really painful and blood is running down my hands. I've been dealing with this for about 10 years or so. Anyone else dealt with this/know what it is?

I do it too, though not nearly to the same degree. Also bite my nails. It sucks because I often get infections of the cuticle (paronychia) and other nasty stuff

I bite the skin around my finger nails to the point they bleed. I usually do it when I have nothing to do, or I'm extremely nervous.

Hey there,

if this is happening whenever you're stressed or anxious there are some other things that you can turn to without harming yourself in any way. You could try using a stress ball for these feelings; they are highly effective and may help you in stopping this addiction. You could also try to do something different whenever you get these feelings, like turn the TV on or read a book.

If you do try any of these things, and it still doesn't stop, just remember it's okay to ask for help. You could talk to your parents about it or an adult figure.

You are also welcome to message me if you have any questions or need any sort of help.

Are you having a tough day or night? Then do this, place your hand over your heart. Feel that? That's called purpose. You're alive for a reason. Don't give up.
