Unhappy Compulsivly picking at my scalp.. - August 7th 2014, 03:11 AM

I have issues with constantly wanting to be clean. As I've said in previous posts, the idea of greasy hair and skin and lotion make me like freak out. I shower sometimes multiple times a day, during the summer and on weekends (which the summer is over, but). And a few months ago I got this pimple at my hairline and started picking at it. Because I didn't like the way it felt. But of course it scabbed over and the scab bothered me. So I picked it off. The cycle continued and before I know I'm constantly feeling around my head for bumps and picking at them and now I've got at least ten scabs on my head that I constantly pick at. It gives me awful headaches. It's causing my hair to stick up and grow weird and what not but I don't really notice when I do it at first but then I realize I am but then again I really hate those sonsabitches so I pick at them anyways. It's getting noticed my my little sister and now she does it sometimes and just idk. Anyone else? Anyone have any tips for getting them to heal quicker?

I do the same thing as you. For getting them to heal quicker, I think honestly the best thing for you to do would be to try your best to stop picking at them and make sure to keep the area clean (Which you seem to be doing).

Maybe you can ask someone to politely point it out when you are picking. That way, you will know that you are doing it and be able to stop. It may also be useful to you to have something to do with your hands, so instead of picking, you can be working with your hands instead.

Thumbs up Re: Compulsivly picking at my scalp.. - August 7th 2014, 05:04 AM

Thank you (btw, your username? It's great). I think that if I could just let them heal up, then I might not pick at my head anymore. And yes, lol, I am keeping the areas clean :b

if you keep picking at them you may have something called dermatillomania, which is compulsive skin picking. it is related to OCD and trichillomania but not dangerous. if you get worried about it though you could see a doctor about it who would recommend CBT to help you. but it's nothing to worry about PM if you have any questions xx

I do this too. I find its worse when my hands are not busy.. if I am keeping my hands busy its fine... if im not... well im just like picking at myself. scalp. or like anywhere else on my body. I have found loom bands to be like a great distraction for me.
