Addicted to the computer - May 23rd 2009, 04:20 PM

I am addicted to the computer. If I could, I would spend every waking moment on the computer. I do manage to get away without hesitation for school or family time. I also do manage to get away in order to hang out with my friends. I know it is unhealthy to be on the computer that long every day. I am not addicted to it to the point that it is unhealthy. I am just simply addicted.

Re: Addicted to the computer - May 23rd 2009, 05:33 PM

Me too, I literally spend all of my free time on here
I think that it's okay to spend your time on the computer if it's what you enjoy and it's not affecting your everyday life. Seeing as you're going to school and spending time with family and friends, I don't think its too bad at all.

If it is concerning you, you could start to try and 'reward' yourself with computer time or you could attempt to restrict your time on the computer. For example, you could say "Tonight i'll spend 2 hours on the computer" then reduce it to 1hr30, 1hr etc. until you feel less dependent.

it is good that you can manage your time on the computer but be steady with it. too much isn't good. so just be careful.

Re: Addicted to the computer - May 24th 2009, 02:09 AM

Hey,

I agree with Stephanie. If you are happy spending that much time on the computer and it isn't negatively effecting your life or your health then I don't see a problem. If the amount of time you're spending on the computer is keeping you from enjoying life then there might be a problem. One way I like to remind myself that I can have fun without modern technology is going camping. It forces you to resort to more creative ways to entertain yourself. If you can't go camping you might want to consider recruiting a few of your friends to go 'technology free' with you for a week and give up things like Tv, cellphones, gaming systems, your computer , radio, ipod, etc. I don't mean go to the extreme of not using the toilet that would just be too much . You could even make it into one big sleep over and switch houses every couple nights. It's good to be reminded that you don't have to be dependent on machines for entertainment. I know it sounds silly but it's a fun idea to try. Finding an offline hobby might open your eyes to other fun forms of entertainment. I would at least consider taking a class on something you're interested in, joining a sports team, or learning something new. The possibilities really are endless. You are only limited by your imagination. Take some time to explore the world beyond the web. Take care and good luck with everything.

Lots of love <3 Mimi

Re: Addicted to the computer - May 24th 2009, 03:52 PM

I wouldn't consider myself addicted because I get on and off all day, but I do miss the internet when it is taken away.

If you think that the computer is affecting your daily life, then you need to try to cut back. However, you have to do something with your free time. If this is how you chose to spend it, so be it. I'm addicted to knitting and could easily spend every waking minute doing it, but I manage my time. You have to manage your time around the computer, using it as a reward or something that you do in spare moments.

I'm living in the mid-west and in a small town with little to nothing to do except go to bars or eat, so I have an excuse to be on here a lot, but its good to get off for a while and go out anyways, keeps you sane after a while (at least thats the case with me).

If you can easilly break away to spend time with family and friends, you're not that addicted. My fiancee would concur that I am addicted, in the sense, my "routine" consists of getting up, deciding against breakfast, getting partially dressed, then going to my Xbox or PC. You, my friend, have the computer as an Acquaintence. My PC is my best friend.

I always seem to go on it even when there's nothing to do on it. It really doesn't matter aslong as it doesn't start becoming something that your life revolves around.

Re: Addicted to the computer - June 8th 2009, 01:59 PM

I'll could spend a whole day on the computer, but I try not to let that be the case, I always make sure I do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, at least! I go out for my photos And Im often out with friends in the evening for hours on end...

But as has been said unless you physically cant drag yourself away from it theres no harm done...

I use it as something to do when Im bored, and for work, seeing as my life is either bored or working most of the time, I spend most of my life on here...

Also LOVING TH atm

How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing?
Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting.
