Keep getting back to it - October 9th 2017, 01:28 PM

Hey all,

A while ago i posted a thread of my addiction to pornography, since then; i was able to cut down to twice a week. But I can't go further than that. My mind is pretty set to watching it at least twice a week, its so difficult to hold it, I'm lost in my own senses. How do I gain control of my self when dealing with pornography?

HI there,

Two times a week is a huge accomplishment! I know people who watch it a lot more than that. I recommend waiting a week or so, then try to cut it down to once a week. Another thing you can do is set 'children' settings on the internet browser, which will make it so you can't access those types of sites

I think that is a huge accomplishment. I have heard that pornography is extremely addictive even though I have never watched it. I do however masturbate with thoughts in my head. I agree that get a handle on the two times a week and once you have a good handle on that try and take that next step to once a week.

yeah wait awhile longer and then try once a week.
maybe even watching it once a week, and then using a picture to replace the second time. or something like that to slowly decrease your addiction to it. cutting it down doesn't only have to be with cutting down the days, it can also be the types of porn you choose to use.

also twice a week is an amazing accomplishment! congrats on getting this far, i know people who have tried to quit this and they're still at square one, so i really applaud you for being able to push through it.

Maybe you could try something different to replace pornography.

It's hard when masturbating is normal, and people by design are programmed to crave sex.

There's a website called Beautiful Agony which has only people's faces. There's no nudity. But still it's people masturbating and having orgasms. You can decide if that counts as porn or not.

Perhaps try having fantasies in your mind instead of looking at pictures and videos. Sex is a mind thing.

If it seems addictive, you could try this mindfulness technique:

"Meditation can help with addiction in several significant ways. First, impulses to action, that is, to take the drink or visit the Internet pornography site, can be noticed without attachment. The compulsion to actually do them can be greatly lessened. They can be experienced as strong waves in the personality and body. From central calmness, they are viewed as powerful surges. When an impulse, be it addictive behavior or simply the impulse to scratch an itch, is attended to and witnessed, rather than instantly acted upon, it loses its grasping power. Yes, the impulse to smoke may be acute, but it's not overwhelming. You can watch it, marvel at its strength, but not get caught by it. And, like a big wave, it passes swiftly. In this way, impulsive behavior can be gradually weakened. Impulse can be decoupled from action, so that a desire does not automatically lead to acting on it."

I'd say anything more than 3 times a day is addicted. I blow every day and I wouldnt consider myself addicted. just feels good man
