weird addictions? - June 8th 2009, 09:49 AM

Are there any of those? Or is already weird when you have one?

Anyway, I have several odd addictions:

1. buying, polishing, holding pens
2. looking at things when they discolor water. you know like when you pour powdered juice or something in a glass of water and it makes the smoky cloudy thing...
3. touching things, feeling textures. when i touch stuff i get this taste on my tongue and a feeling which i cant really explain to you so its weird
4. hospitals. i tour them. hate me.
5. taking pictures of feet or shoes

does anyone have any weird addictions? or odd ones like out of the ordinary

Re: weird addictions? - June 8th 2009, 07:38 PM

AHAHAHA.
I have the same addiction with taking pictures of feet or shoes. My best friend thinks I'm a freak but she somehow does the same thing now. I think she got that from me, l0l.

I have this addiction of looking at the bottle of water, some things float there after a person drinks on the bottle. Forgive me if this sounds gross but I just have this constant addiction of looking at it. It amazes me, lmaoo!

I eat my pen's cover at times when I'm really bored. Okay, I don't eat it... I chew it! :P Basically, all my pens' cover are chewed up.

Um, that's all I have right now :P

Omg, I LOVE watching crystal light dissolve in my bottled water!
the only addiction of yours that is all that surprising is the hospital thing. I hate hospitals >_< but i guess i understand how it could be interesting how all the different phases of life happen there

Most say mine is more OCD than addiction but:
Any volume has to be on a multiple of 5. I usually can't listen to things until I've checked. It really bugs people. And I always try and do things in 5s too.

I have the same issue with gum, I go through 1-3 packets a day and get extremely stressed when I've ran out!

I have the same thing with hospitals.
If i'm in one I get this amazing urge to get up and 'Tour' so you say. I can't just sit there and NOT explore it.

I've got a really weird thing though, i'm addicted to dreaming. I go to bed early just so I can dream, then when I wake up in the morning I get all stressed out and force myself to go back to sleep so that I can go back to having another dream. I'll wake up and go back to sleep as many times as possible during a day. The result is that i'm not waking up until about 2pm every day, and that's only because my body refuses to go back to sleep. Then I think about my dreams all day. If i'm at work (I have to wake up at 6am for work) then i'm unhappy about the fact that I didnt get to obsess over my dreams. I hate it.

Touching things... anything and everything. i have to touch every picture, every article of clothing in the store, anything that looks like it has a funny texture.

Labeling people according to smell. lol. Trying to figure out what kind of cologne or perfume they use... ironic that my favorite-smelling person doesn't wear any... makes no sense. usually the yummy ones do...

Not exactly addictions but stuff that has to be done.

When i'm in a car everyones door HAS to be locked or I freak out aha.

When it gets really quiet and nobodys talking I have to clear my throat.

I don't like touching peoples right hand because most people are right handed and do there dirty habits with that hand lol. Like nose pickers and stuff.

If I touch a sponge or a carpet with my hands I have to wet them because I hate the feel of them :S

Re: weird addictions? - June 11th 2009, 02:22 AM

can weird habits apply here also?

I am almost obsessed with gum. If I could have it in my mouth all the time, I would.

I am obsessed with smells. I'm probably the first person to notice if someone smells good. And if they do, I'm not afraid to tell them!

In connection with the smell thing... I'm almost obsessed with the way my boyfriend smells. It's intoxicating to me... and it's not even like he smells that great.

I love touching things... and when I touch things, I have to do them evenly. Like if I touch something with my right index finger, I have to touch it with my left, too. I have to make my hands feel the same. (does that make sense) One of my friends does the same thing. If she takes a ring on and off, she has to do the same thing to her other hand.

I also have a small obsession with even numbers. I like having evenly numbered steps on stairs, and an even amount of letters in a word.

I also looooove dreaming. I always feel... different when I wake up and remember a dream than if I don't remember my dream. I love that feeling for some reason. Plus I always have good story ideas after a good dream.

I really don't think I have any addictions, but...

Looking at your third addiction, are you sure you might not have synesthesia? It sounds like you might, which would be interesting, because I haven't heard of many cases involving taste.

I'm kind of addicted to that feeling you get when you get something new... I love buying new clothes/jewelry/notebooks or anything! I think that's also the reason I love changing how I look so much.... I like to dye and cut my hair and do fun things with makeup and styles, anything to keep from the same old

I don't know if this is a "weird" addiction as I've heard of it before... but I also wonder if I'm addicted to affection. I thrive off of the kindness I get from my friends, and compliments, hugs, talking to my boyfriend... even having a stranger holding the door open for me puts me in a gleeful mood... and yeah

I'm definitely addicted to music, anywhere i go i listen to it, the only time i don't, like seriously, is when i'm trying to read, because then i can't concentrate.

i'm also obsessed with small writing. I can't stand huge writing for some reason, i write in small print, i have the settings on my electronics to show small or compressed writing.

i think that's it for now.

I'm not sure if this is labeled as an addiction, obsession, habit,... put whatever label you want on it:

1) I must align the pens and pencils on a desk or tablet at university, with the proper number of them, along with if needed, a calculator, eraser and student ID. They must be aligned properly and go by size and colour. If it's not, then there's this nagging feel that I have to re-align it before continuing. My room is somewhat organized but when I go to work, then it must be organized or I cannot continue.
2) A love or passion for sadism, usually from online, dreams, drawings (less of them) or imagination. They give this electrifying feeling and give the feeling that you're temporarily alive.

ummm...i get random impulses to tense muscles or something, it's kind of hard to explain. if something brushes across my leg i get an impulse to tense up that part of it, and i get random urges to tense up or shut my eyes really hard.
i don't know if it's an addiction or just a habit but if i'm not thinking about it i usually don't do it.

I have the same addiction with dreams, it's so weird. I love dreaming and I remember my dreams virtually every night. I still remember dreams I've had 10 years ago. Sometimes I wake up remembering a dream I had as a kid, and I wonder if I had the dream again the night before or if it was just so realistic and memorable that I'm remembering it from the one time I had it. I could sleep all day, and it's kind of interfering with wanting to actually live and do things.

Im not addicted, but i often end up going back to sleep because i want to know what was next in the dream, which often causes me to have limited time getting reading in the morning. I get so annoyed when i get woken up - not because i havent had enough sleep most of the time, but because i love dreaming so much. Even if they are nightmares.

I also have to had cupboard doors totally shut all the time - it annoys me so much if they are slightly open.
If i itch my face with one had i will have to with the other until the balance seems right.

Omg, me too! I don't really check it but if I change volume it HAS to be on a multiple of 5. The odd numbers that aren't multiples of 5 especially bug me. The number of pictures on my camera also MUST be a multiple of 5. And that's just an example. I hate it when the minute of the current time isn't a multiple of 5. And like everything else too HAS to be 5, 10, 15, 20, etc... Lol, it's so funny how I just cannot stand it when it isn't!

I don't know if it counts as addicitions but i am certainly obsessed with being clean. I wash my hands so many times in a day, and if i just as touch something that i consider to be dirty with just one finger, i have to wash the whole hand. I guess i'm addicted to food as well.

Re: weird addictions? - June 28th 2009, 02:46 PM

I don't actually know what addictions I have, or at least weird ones. I mean, with volumes I have certain numbers that it's got to be on, but then, does that actually count as an addiction?! I get such a strange feeling if the volume isn't on one of 'my right numbers', and I simply can't sit listening to whatever it is. It's got to be on either 12, 14, 18, 21, 24, 28, 32, 34, 36, 38, 41, 42, 46 or 48. It's strange because there doesn't even seem to be any pattern to the numbers! I also think I've got an addiction to walking and water. They both came about when I was trying to quit smoking. It's as if I had replaced my addiction to cigarettes with drinking water and walking. Now I'm back smoking but I've still got to have a bottle of water with me wherever I go and walk every morning and night!

You might want to be careful there, this could turn into an OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) where you have a constant need to keep clean that it starts to affect your life. If this is the case then you should see a specialist about it. There are some cases out there where people cannot do anything because of this obsession to stay clean.

This isn't that weird but I thought I would share anyways. I am moderately addicted to caffeine. I get awful headaches if I go a day without any. My drink of choice is diet coke. My mom actually complains about how many cokes I drink a day

I have an odd obsessions with certain numbers. While this isn't really an addiction it certainly effects my daily life. The three main numbers I tend to focus on are 6, 15, and 21. I'll do certain things or pick amounts that correspond with the numbers whenever I can. I get an unexplainable sense of comfort when something matches up just right with one of my numbers. I also have a bad habit of drawing connections with things when there may not actually be any. Many of the loose connections I draw tend to some how relate to one of my 'special numbers'. Feel free to think I'm crazy now

Lots of love <3 Mimi
