An issue with my uncle - July 20th 2009, 07:27 PM

To make a long story short, my uncle has been a drug addict since he was 13 years old. He is now 41 years old. He has an ex-wife and two kids (15 years old and 10 years old) He's currently on the streets, again, doing and selling drugs. My family is heartbroken, yet again. It's not like he has no support system because we all love him very much and do all that we can to help him.

He's been on the streets before. He's been in jail before. He's with us for a little bit and then he goes off for a bit. The cycle continues. He's been in and out of rehab, in and out of jail and my family is beginning to get sick of it. They literally go downtown in their cars and wait around for him for hours on end - just to see if they'll find him so they can help him.

We're running out of ideas. We don't know what to do with him. He doesn't want the help, clearly. My dad found him today and he told my dad he was going to call us around 2:00 p.m. because he wasn't ready to go just yet because he had to "do a few things." It's now 3:30 p.m. and we haven't gotten a call.

What can we do? Any suggestions at all? It's kind of a complicated situation so if you need further explanation, let me know.

This is a very complicated situatuion, and im sorry you are going through this.
many drug addicts dont stop until they have hit rock bottom, and it seems he hasnt.
i know this experience and be heart breaking and the only option i could possible think of is and intervention... i dont know how common they are but the idea seems to apply here. Has you family ever talked about it?

They have certainly spoken about some kind of intervention in the near future but nothing seems to get through to him - not even the potential loss of his kids!

wel there has to be some sort of rock bottom for him, he just hasnt been there yet.
i strongly suggest you have an intervention as soon as possible, it seemes like he needs it and it could be highly detramental to his life if something doesnt happen quickly.
